Just some observations after watching the replay again

-The difference in Mett's pocket presence is night and day. The last play of the half, although a negative play, was really encouraging. The inside was blown up, pressure started coming off the right side and Mett managed to get out of there while keeping his eyes downfield. Last year he was mostly completely lost. Lone sack he took was a pretty badly missed blitz pick up. Not sure who that would have been on, chalk it up to a good call/play by TCU.
-Trai Turner looks years beyond his age. I don't think he's the most physically talented player, but he always seems to be aware of the blocking scheme and is able to slant the tackle whichever way needed to make a positive play. Excels getting to the next level/pulling. In an obvious passing down, if help is available I think it would be advantageous to help his man. Vadal looks to be the better of the two in pass protection. With that being said, encouraged by Vadal's play as well. Vadal could be a high-end draft prospect at guard.
-Hawkins has one heck of a quick get off in his stance. His athleticism was overwhelming to whomever he was blocking. There was a couple of times he didn't finish his blocks and allowed too much separation between him and his man. Only nitpicks, usually still provided plenty of time for Mett to throw. Bright future.
-Not much to say about La'el's play. He was everywhere. I liked how we moved Gordon around. He'll be an asset in the run game going forward.
-The majority of struggles in the run game were just good plays by TCU. They were pretty efficient in their run blitzes. Add that with some tentativeness on Blue's end and the result was some negative plays. Overall, looked like the same Blue from pre-injury. Most extensive time he got against a quality opponent. Should improve going forward.
-Hard to say too much about the defense as ESPN skipped through a lot of our series. Freak handles a double team really well. Ego when double teamed struggled on a couple plays I saw. Obviously when single-manned he dominated his match up. Quentin Thomas created a lot of pressure when in the game. Danielle Hunter too, was in on a number of plays. Two real quality back ups with big-time starter potential.
-The touchdown on their lone drive was bad, bad. The man was obviously in motion and both Welter/Rasco committed to the quarterback. With both free, there's got to be some communication on responsibilities or that happens. Martin took a terrible angle. Add that with missed tackles and bad, bad.
-Barrow was inches away from making big plays. If last year was any indication he'll start making them. They picked on him in coverage some, but I imagine those 5 yard in routes is something we're willing to give up on early downs.
-Micah Eugene had a real good game. Was everywhere, always in right spot. Would have liked to see him rush off the edge some to see if he improved in that regard.
-Loston was a Jekyll and Hyde. As many have mentioned, he doesn't seem to have much awareness for the ball. I don't know what the hell he was doing on Mills pick. #7 was wide open and Loston was in no man's land. Even though he doesn't target the ball as much as others he had some nice breakups by playing through the offender.
Didn't want this to sound overly positive or negative. These were just observations I had regarding the game. Obviously, no one is going to be perfect - just pointing out the few negative plays I noticed to see if there is a trend growing as we go through the season.

What are your thoughts on the full blitz?

Nice read. Now comment on Welter!

Looked liked a totally different player to me, his coverage skills are so much better.

I thought both La'El and Mills stood out when rewatching. Oline played great also, Hawkins was on the left side next to La'El on the Copeland score and noticed some cross blocking by Vadal on a few plays(slid OL to the left, Vadal pulled over to right side in pass pro). Mills all around game is exceptional both in coverage and run support.

Only thing I would add is that Connor Neighbors is also one of the best blockers in college football. I noticed it last year when he was in on a bunch of rushing touchdowns. He puts on a clinic of locking down defenders. Copeland gets all the love and rightfully so, but Neighbors is also a beast blocker. It's nice having two badass fullbacks to go along with the running game

I do remember Cameron saying in an interview that they had two of the finer fullbacks he has ever been around.

Huge compliment. The Ravens had some of the best fullbacks in the NFL

Rasco is a bit slower than I expected. Hunter and Allen need to be in the field more, at the same time. They are both very disruptive.

I agree. Allen is a beast and could really be a star IMO...

Interesting. Please review each game, don't have time to spend but appreciate your insight.

Great observations man. I had similar thoughts as well.
As for Lael, everyone should pay close attention to him on Magee's 52 yard TD.
I assumed he pulled watching it live because he ended up so far downfield, but he just straight up drove his man about 10 yards downfield and ended up picking a couple of other guys that could have otherwise had a lane to cut Magee off.
That guy is going to hurt people this year, and on Sundays next year imo
Not to mention a fella by the name of Lorenzo Neal in San Diego who may well be the best fullback in NFL history.

If we play a team with a good TE our LB's are going to be exploited

Blue, maybe?

In regards to Loston I was glad he didn't get run for targeting...he showed great restraint and discipline a couple of times..,

Great analysis. I felt like I was the only one that noticed #7 wide open in the middle of the feild on our INT. Was a sure TD if Pachall sees him, idk what loston was doing...
Also, to comment on a player you didn't comment on:
-Desean Smith really struggled, specifically he could not get off a jam to save his life. Needs to learn how to use his size and hands better. (Hands in terms of getting off jams, not catching ability)

yea. afraid to pick up a fumble tho. he acted like it was a hot potato. he touched the ball with both hands and then pulled them away so fast it was like the ball hurt his hands. i have seen this by other players from lots of team at different levels. i think it's psychological.

Copeland destroys people but once in a while he whiffs on a block or just doesn't see a defender that he needs to pick up. There was a play in the first half where Copeland lead the way into the hole but Blue couldn't get there because a defender that Copeland ran right past came in behind him and got Blue before he reached the LOS.
Neighbors isn't as devastating as Copeland but I think he makes fewer mistakes and is better at catching the ball. I'm glad we've got both these guys.
