Congrats for finishing the greatest series of all time.

Now watch Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones and you would have completed the Holy Trinity of Television.

Game of Thrones

Not so fast my friend! Doesn't even have an ending yet. While it's good, it remains to be seen whether it will be in the trinity.

I'm confident Breaking Bad will be there, but I would replace Game of Thrones with The Sopranos right now.

Game of Thrones is really good but I think it is too early to put in the top 3.

The Wire and the Shield stand above Breaking Bad. Haven't seen GoT.

agreed. the wire is by far #1 goat, with sopranos and breaking bad rounding out the top 3.

GoT is awesome, but for some reason i don't enjoy it as much as the top 3, and don't think it can crack the "holy trinity".

Just finished season 2. It's really well done, but I'd be lying if I said I loved it. The dialogue in it is absolutely spot-on, though.

Also, I haven't really had many opportunities to burn through a lot of episodes in a row. I rarely, if ever, can watch more than 1 a night and will usually go 3-4 nights before being able to watch another. I know this isn't helping.

After this, do I watch Soprano's or Breaking Bad next?

season 2 feels like a let down, but once you watch seasons 3,4, and 5 it will all come together.

i personally prefer sopranos to breaking bad.

That's what most have told me so I'm definitely going to stick with it. Season 2 just seemed like too much of a switch IMO. I understand adding in a couple new characters, but they went too far away from their bread and butter. I really liked "The Greek", but the rest of the new characters sucked.

I'll probably go with Soprano's first, but I don't really love mob film which is odd because it's my favorite type of fiction.

I've heard people compare this show to BB?

Never watched an episode of the wire FWIW

At this point, I would wait for BB to wrap up - just watch out for spoilers in the meantime, since it's topical. I don't think you have enough time to catch up for the finale - with the caveat if you have time and think you can do that, it might be worth it.

In addition to The Sopranos, I can recommend The Shield, probably not as consistently good and gripping as The Wire, but the highs and lows are better - best Pilot/Finale combination in television history (and the Pilot/Series finale were directed by Clark Johnson, who holds the same distinction for The Wire - he also played Gus Haynes, the editor with ethics in Season 5 of The Wire).

Obligatory "I liked Season 2, even more so the second time around" post.

I definitely plan to watch BB once it wraps up and I can get all seasons on DVD, but I honestly don't see how it can be as good as The Wire. I hope to be pleasantly surprised, but that's a high fricking bar to reach.

We are just about to start Season 5. One of the best developed series I've ever seen. The way they started the series with focus on the OGs and then showed how they left the scene and the young bucks came up is awesome.

it isn't as good as the wire. don't expect it to be, and you wont be let down. I don't think I will ever watch any tv show or movie that will top the wire.

it's very similar to the sopranos, with alot of dark humor, the anti-hero main character, and the duality of the family life and criminal life.
