With LSU football being "the program" in such a provincial and football driven state, what bodes for the long term futures of guys like McKnight, L. Collins and Cam Robinson? -particularly if they underachieve after high profile recruitments and spurnings...

I know that they will get grief from those around them but how far does it go, that is, are they able to return and gain employment at some point? What do their families experience regarding job opportunities, friendships etc?

Does the proverbial "ship just sail" and they move elsewhere? Any precedent to cite?

Guys like Warrick Dunn, Reggie Wayne, Marshall Faulk etc left "back in the day" but they all made the big time and did not choose LSU's rival with the broad 24/7/365 ESPNU, internet and social media recruiting coverage that exists now.

It's not so much as leaving, it's leaving for a rival IMO.

with all due respect LSU wasnt a winning program like it is today when those guys went out of state. We shouldnt be losing top in state talent these days

Me too - I just wonder how it plays out at the local level with such ill will. College rivals coexist well in the corporate world.

People always take these posts the wrong way, but its definitely something to be considered. If you decide to leave your home state whether it be for sports or academics, that will effect your future employment/endeavors in that state. If someone from Tennessee comes to LSU for school, it'll be harder for him to go back and get a job vs. a guy who went to UT. Is that really a ridiculous concept? People act as though LSU fans are dicks for bringing up this notion. For guys like Robinson and Landon Collins, this decision is essentially choosing a new home because LA is not really your real home anymore when you choose to go play OOS. So you better be really fricking sure you won't miss it. Works that way for students and student athletes just the same. That's just the way it is.

Maybe LSU should never recruit a player outside of the state of Louisiana. This thought process sickens me. It's a damn game. You shouldn't ruin anyone's life because a kid chooses to go where he wants.

OP here and I totally agree. I am just curious how it plays out in a top football talent state with a single big time program. Other states have top talent too, but they also have more than one top 50 college football program...

if you follow recruiting as close as those of us that post on message boards, you will remember this 10 years from now. The vast majority of people, even in the state of La do not follow recruiting at all and will probably not remember and certainly will not care 10 years from now.

I assume they are treated like any other former Alabama or Auburn or Texas A&M player. Why in the hell would anybody care that they used to be good in high school football somewhere? If they go to LSU, even if they don't do well, they'll have name recognition and good will their whole lives. If not, they might as well be some nobody from Bumfrick, Alabama, which, in your scenario in which their football careers flop, I guess they are.
