Baton Rouge Advice for Out-of-Towners

I've been reading these forums for a while but this'll be my first post here. Me and three buddies are heading down from Canada -- myself from northern, middle-of-nowhere Canada -- for the Texas A&M @ LSU game. We've also got tickets for the Saints @ Falcons game on Thursday so we'll be driving down from Atlanta to BR Friday morning and staying until Monday. I had a few questions regarding game-day and accommodations that I was wondering if anyone here might be able to help out with:
- Where is the best place to stay? I was looking at the hotels around Tiger Stadium and they all appear to be sold out so we were thinking maybe the Quality Inn across the river.
- I've never tailgated a game before and I looked into it a bit at LSU, but I'm assuming all we need to do is to show up at 8 AM Saturday in full gear to the parking lots?
- Lastly, any advice for post-game events or bars?
Thanks in advance for any help; we bought our tickets a few months back and have been foaming at the mouth to get down south and watch some quality football.
Cheers

Just be polite and tell people where you are from and you are here to see the Tiger and see what the tailgating is all about and you will be treated like kings.

I work up in Northern Alberta but I'm from Vancouver, two guys live in Calgary and one lives in Edmonton.

How did you find TD, and why in the hell would you want to come to an LSU game?

How in the hell did you become LSU fans all the way up in Canada?

Call them aggy while you're tailgating.

If you end up near my tailgate I will make you say all kinds of random quotes in your silly accent. Then I will offer you some beer, food, and chances to mack on any single women that are around.

Will treat you like a king at my tailgate, how about some deer hunting in Canada

Two of the guys have been big college football fans for quite a while; one went to Oregon State and the other is a lifelong Notre Dame fan so they initially got me and the other guy into it. We've heard about how nuts Tiger Stadium is and I've always wanted to see a big SEC game so we bought our tickets.
Tiger Droppings came up when I was looking for some tailgating info.

The best place to stay is the closest place to the stadium you can find. I say this because it will be cheaper for cabs and easier to get to the stadium on gameday. And book you room(s) as soon as possible because this will end up being a big game and rooms will be at a premium soon.

Since yall are coming to the aTm game you are going to want to get there as early as possible (mainly because I personally think the game will be a 2:30 start). Bring an ice chest with your own personal beverages (yes, we are very hospitable to out-of-town, first time Tiger fans but nobody likes a mooch). Walk around and take in the whole experience. Visit the parade grounds, Tiger 1, and the RV lots and anywhere else you smell good food. Lastly, do not miss the band coming down the hill which happens around 2 hours before kickoff (someone check my timing on that). It is an experience all its own.

Don't forget going to an LSU game is really a two day/night party. Friday you should go check out Fred's for free drinks (get there early, it will be packed). JL's also has free drinks but isn't quite the experience as Fred's (it's still a pretty badass time). After the game check out Serranos, Fred's, JL's, and Bogies. You can't have a bad time anywhere you choose.
My last piece of advice is prepare yourself (and your liver) for a long, exciting, and extremely drunk weekend filled with booze and extremely good looking women. Have fun and maybe I'll see yall there.

Wow, thanks a ton for the info. Those tiger boys gonna roll those stinkin aggie-hosers eh. I hear those aggies have a pretty good goalie who won the Calder but he got sent to the penalty box for taking a few too many loonies for his scribbles eh.

Just bring liquor and moose steaks, we'll take care of the rest

I'd almost rather you stay at the Sleep Inn next to Celebration Station or the Days Inn by the Mall of LA than drive across the bridge to Port Allen. I just checked on Hotels.com and both are available for friday and saturday night.
