Not a nega-tiger, just simple observation here.

Special teams has a lot to work on. The kick coverage team has a serious problem with getting out of their lanes and creating coverage integrity downfalls. Especially the right side of the coverage team. TCU had one TD return, and had a couple more where we had people come from different lanes to make a tackle saving big plays.

Loved everything else about the game, but that won't fly in SEC ball.

I was skeptical when opening the thread but I agree, there were 2 other returns where it was one broken tackle away.

I just wish Hairston would or could kick it out of the endzone and get touchbacks so we wouldn't even have to worry above KO coverage

WHEW! I was afraid we were going to miss the chance to bitch about everything. That one almost slipped through the cracks; good catch!

James Wright looked excellent in kickoff coverage. Never want to give up a TD, but outside of that teams looked good IMO.

Red Zone offense and LB play needs to improve.

I do like the way the team stayed calm though and never panicked.

This. Although, regardless of the kick depth, lane integrity is the number one priority on kick coverage. Streakers do exactly that, second man in on each side has contain, and everyone else has to stay in their lane and clamp down the returner's options.

Just got to drill that into everyone's head, make a point of fixing it, and we won't have that problem anymore.

I said last night that if we didnt get that fumble early we possibly wouldnt have given up the TD because they changed their return guy

One change that I don't specifically agree with is that Debo seems to not be a ball hawk anymore! I think they have him with a lane assignment! I don't know our assignments on ST but I felt like Debo was a ball hawk last year with all the vicious hits he had on ST last year but I'm not worried! Remember this is game 1 of the season Special Teams will come together! We've only been playing against ourselves in practice and there's a lot of new faces on those ST's! We'll be fine they'll be corrected before week 4!

Hairston can and could have kicked it out of the end zone. They prefer to have him kick it high so they have to run it. That gives the special teams a chance to pin them deep. Problem is the coverage team blew their assignments. All this is correctable. With the way another team in our conference ran back a punt and a kick off back last night. You will see him kick it out of the end zone when the coaching staff feels like it gives them an advantage. If played correctly, the coverage team had a chance every time to pin them deep.

Miles made a comment last year that, with the touchback being moved from the 20 to the 25, he would prefer to not kick into the endzone.

I know it's only one game, but last night that approach didn't work.
