Fukushima Crisis Escalates

LINK

quote:

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe just minutes ago announced that an emergency at the unstable Fukushima Nuclear Plant less than an hour ago is responsible for dumping “thousands of tons of highly radioactive material into the Pacific Ocean.” - See more at: http://nationalreport.net/breaking-fukushima-crisis-escalates-tons-radioactive-waste-released-pacific-causes-ocean-boil/#sthash.FqkVWC7g.dpuf

quote:

Almost two hours after today’s incident what’s being called the “Fukushima Plume of Death” is rapidly bearing down on Hawaii. It’s estimated once Hawaii is hit California will be hit about 90 minutes after. The effects the nuclear plume are either unknown or being kept from the public. Neither the Japanese or American government has commented on what threat the plume may pose. Right now its anyone’s guess. - See more at: http://nationalreport.net/breaking-fukushima-crisis-escalates-tons-radioactive-waste-released-pacific-causes-ocean-boil/#sthash.FqkVWC7g.dpuf

Y'all heard much about this? Admittedly I haven't seen the news at all today, I've been at class and work. This was posted on facebook, not sure how reliable this link is.

Although there will be a “measurable increase in radioactive materials,” by that point they will be diluted far below the safety levels set by the World Health Organization. So there are no immediate health concerns associated with the plume’s arrival.

Won't hit us until 2014.

Link on CNN

Here's a more mainstream link. Sounds like a mess over there...probably not as urgent as the original link made it sound though.

So there's absolutely no damage to the ecosystem possible? Interesting.

Okay, so our choices are "Plume of Death" or "absolutely no damage to the ecosystem"?

So, it absolutely can't be somewhere in between?

Earlier in the week i was reading china.org to see what they were saying about Syria. That site had a headline about how unstable the reactor was and they were evacuating workers. But never saw much of anything on the MSM.

This tragedy is just getting started. There are some very intelligent and dedicated people working on this, but it will continue to on the verge of spinning out of control for the next couple of decades.

re: Fukushima Crisis Escalates

Posted this on the SECR Off Topic board back in June:

quote:

Radiation from the Fukushima Nuclear Plant disaster in Japan is now actively in the ecosystem all along the North American west coast… even the sea weed is now radiated. The Vancouver Sun reported one year ago that the seaweed tested from waters off the coast of British Columbia were 4 times the amount considered safe. No further test results were released after the initial report.

The governments of the United States and Canada are not conducting tests for radioactivity – at least not to the knowledge of the public. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has agreed to continue purchasing seafood from Japan, despite the fact that the food is not being tested for radioactive contamination. Last November, independent testing in Japan showed 65 per cent of the catches tested positive for cesium (a radioactive material). Instead of refusing to purchase the poisoned fish, food safety agencies in both the United States and Canada have simply raised the “acceptable level of radiation.”

re: Fukushima Crisis Escalates

quote:

A survey released today by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said water laced with caesium and other radioactive materials is flowing into the ocean at a rate of 300 tons a day. The ministry, which oversees the nuclear industry, said it could not rule out the possibility that the water has been leaking into the Pacific since the crisis began more than two years ago.

The unprecedented surge in white on black crime: due to global warming or radiation exposure?

It is like Chernobyl but on a scale far greater.
