Is there a way to find a what insurance company sold a policy years ago?

Have a family member that is on hospice but did not communicate well to his family prior to the battle with dementia. He spoke often of a life insurance policy, but nothing was in his personal papers. Any advice on where to begin the search?

LA Dept of Insurance has a link where you can search for policies based upon social security number. Fill out the form and fax it to the Dept. Takes a few weeks, but if it's an in-force policy they'll find it.

ETA: damn just noticed you're in TN. I've gotta think there's something similar on your State's website.

No problem. If you haven't gone already, on the main page under Consumers...click "Life Policy Search".
