Or would it be better to use cheap blankets to cover gators?

You can big sheets of it from outdoor stores. They sell it to use for makeshift hunting blinds and to hang on deer stands and what not. This would be your best bet to cover gators with I would think.

Places like hobby lobby have rolls of burlap you can buy in the fabric dept.

If you go to a craft store to buy burlap you shouldn't be hunting alligators. Come on man

Construction supply stores. Contractors use it to wet pack concrete and grout.

I'm clearing out a bunch of old stuff and I know that I have a couple bales of burlap bags somewhere in my barn that I'd be happy to give away rather than toss in a dumpster.
What size bag? Potato bag or like a sandbag size? For covering a gator's head?
Where are you located?

They are used to be wet and draped over the gators in the boat while they are running lines and catching a bunch of them and driving around in the heat so they don't spoil the hides, meat, etc.

What he said? I'm in Baton Rouge. I need them basically to cover them and keep em damp until we get them to the buyers

Gotcha.
Yeah, it sounds like other posters' suggestion to get a length off of a roll would be better than messing around with bags.

Most of the burlap you see the guys using to cover gators with is the same burlap the crawfish guys use to cover crawfish sacks in their boat or while transporting. You can get the big sheets of it maybe 10x10 or bigger at the fisherman supply down in bayou sorrel, pigeon area

You have to submerge the burlap for awhile for it to absorb water, especially newer burlap. If your boat has a good bilge bring a 5 gal bucket and dump water on them occasionally. When you get back to landing dump a few ice chests full of ice on them, cover in a crappy blanket and roll out.
