And you base this off of what you've seen in the preseason? Or last year? or ???

Personally I was not looking forward to seeing the "Will Smith experiment", as he has appeared waaaaay too slow to play like they are asking him to. I understand the issue of depth, but I can't help but feel he would get started over younger guys who have a better chance to develop and contribute, just because of his tenure.

I know some have turned him into the running joke on this board but I just don't see how this helps any.

one after another LB's keep getting hurt.

Disgusting.

someone plz pull the DE rankings from last year and/or the year before. Pretty sure Smith was one of the best in the NFL against the run, and had a pretty good rating overall.

I personally think he would have been better served keeping his wieght and playing end in the 3-4 since space is his weakness.

because you were the last one on the list when I posted. it has nothing to do with you other than that. it was towards all the shite-mutts who think this is actually good for the team.

It sucks for depth, but honestly adkins or richardson can do what we were asking Will to do. They may not be as stout against the run, but from what I've seen, they drop into coverage better.

It's true that Smith's run defense put him just in the top third of 4-3 DEs last season.
But his pass rushing and coverage were so terrible that he was very near the bottom overall.

If he played DE this season, it'd be for depth, I'm pretty sure.

Played his best yesterday as a LB (made a nice open space tackle), but but he is not a good LB.

Need Junya & Martez to get healthy NOW. Richardson & Adkins are about the only healthy OLB's.

You can walk..well limp really..right after you tear your ACL. It is the next day that it becomes swollen and immobile. I know this because i have a torn ACL. You don't have to get it repaired if you don't play sports as it's just for lateral movement. Mine has been torn since 1999 and can jog on it no problem. It's when you plant and try to cut to the side that it becomes an issue

then maybe they should be playing MLB, because the 3-4 OLB is 90% pass rush/run stop.

But yes, they will be better..... until they start missing assignments. If you were to poll all 96 head coaches and coordinators in the league, 95 of them would tell you that knowing and maintaining assignments is the most important to them with excecution second. Rex Ryan would say "toes." This is why Lavar Arrington failed miserably in the league: he was lights out talent, but he did his own thing on most every play. He was a headache for coaches. This is also why more talented rookies/young players don't play over less talented veterans.

I didn't say they'd be better players MDS.

how have they been at rushing the passer?

I honestly have been watching the interior D-linemen more than anything no matter what. I've also been trying to get a look at Hawthorne and the other inside backers.

No. He showed nothing and we still have guys that were likely to miss the cut that were playing better like Atkins, Johnson, Martin, and/or Richardson.

It's likely 2 of them would not have made it.

Adkins seems like a better pass rusher. I haven't seen much from Richardson.
