I like both, but BB is better IMO.

The Sopranos was a fairly consistent show with hardly any "poor" episodes. Not too much difference in terms of one episode being great and then next being "meh". Just a very consistently good drama.

Breaking Bad has a few boring setup episodes every season but once they've got you setup, Gilligan blows your fricking mind. There are more boring episodes than there are in the Sopranos but the good episodes are the best of any show, ever. "Half Measure", "Full Measure", "Crawl Space", "End Times"...episodes that you need a breather afterwards just to recover from.

The ending worked very well. The only people who wanted something different apparently were looking for something tied up in a nice bow so that they didn't have to use their head. And, yes, I liked the ending on the very night it happened. I was surprised . . . maybe a little disappointed for a few minutes . . . but after talking about it among the people I was with, we all came to sort of admire it. The fact that it's controversial and pisses people off makes it even more interesting to me.

And both series are very good.

So, you all had to convince each other that it was good. That's pretty normal. It's gotten to the point that people have all done this with each other to the degree that they don't want to admit that it was a shite way to end the show in fear of basically being called dumb.

Again, how it ended did not fit with how the series had always been presented, period.

Christ. I'd like just one discussion of this without someone trotting out that tired cliche. Have an original thought instead of regurgitating that meme.

What makes it more painful to hear is that the series WAS neatly sorted out all the way up until the final scene. Just about every storyline was tidied up leading up to the last meal.

It was a straightforward show that jumped the track with an artsy-fartsy finale. That's what caused the backlash from the fans. Not their inability to think or to follow along.

Sopranos: lots of hype, little delivery (Seasons 1 & 3 were fricking awesome, the rest drags)
BB: holy shite solid. Except skylar and the whiney son. They suck.

To expound:
Sopranos preview: drama with Tony and Ralphie; they show Ralphie running in his robe outdoors looking scared.
Sopranos episode: ralphie's son shot himself with a bow and arrow

BB: no preview. The first episode back in the second half of season 5 they get the confrontation underway in the garage.

Sopranos is boring and anticlimactic. And I loved the show. BB (and The Wire) make the sopranos their bitch.

This is highly unlikely, no matter the end. But I'm not going to get into the "which is better" discussion. That's not fair to either one.

Well, I will say that I feel like I'm being asked to choose sides. I like both shows a lot and when I say that it's seems very obviously The Sopranos, I don't want to it to appear as a knock on Breaking Bad because it is also one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Timing is also not fair to Breaking Bad. The Sopranos was a groundbreaking show and like someone else pointed out, not on basic cable. Breaking Bad has great writing despite limitations, but isn't exploring new territory or setting the bar for dramatic television.
