Mack's prairie wings waders
Posted by joshric on 8/23/13 at 10:38 am10
Any OB reviews on their 2013 big ditch waders? Or reviews on their waders from the past. My 5 yr old lacrosse waders have one too many holes now

I had Lacrosse and switched to the MPW Big Ditch.
Nothing wrong with lacrosse, mine just got old and eventually leaked after a few seasons.
Anyway, back to the big ditch, I bought them because I got an e-mail about them going on sale. They are the baddest waders I've ever had from the ankle up. My only complaint is the sole of the boot feels thin. No leaks, but I can feel every little stick I step on making me think it's not thick enough. This will be my second season in them this year.

The ultra touch sole is by design to help with foot placement when wading through water with obstructions or the ground isn't slick.

Design or not, it's still a complaint from my field testing.

I've heard good things about them and I called to order them from that sale last year but who ever I talked to said to wait for the 2013 model to come out. Apparently there was a common complaint and they tried to address it this year.
Something I've discovered that I couldnt stand about my lacrosse waders was the buckle suspenders. The butt of my gun would be on the plastic buckle and just aggravate the hell out of me. But I used my doctor brain and only buckled the left side to solve that problem

You can also unbuckle both, let them out and use them as a belt, that's why the buckles are reversed on each shoulder.
MPW Big Ditch have it's own belt already though.

I got a pair last year and like the way they fit. I only got them in the 3.5 mm neoprene and really couldn't tell a difference on the cold mornings between the last 5 mm lacrosse waders that leaked in the crotch after one year and the thinner neoprene

I've had a pair of the 3.5 mm for the past two seasons. They've been great. No problems at all. They're pretty basic, buts that what I like. I also feel like I have more flexibility in them them vs. Drake which seem really stiff. I'm not sure who makes them for Mack's but my guess is Lacross.

Thanks y'all. My mind was basically made up to get them just wanted to see if anyone had any issues here.

Ive had the Drake LST 1300 or 1600 grams for the past 3 or 4 seasons. Aside from the major crotch leak, I dread wearing them due to extreme sweating and not being able to move. They are built like a straight jacket for the klondike.
Probably grab some Macks next year due to the good reviews here.

I will be investing in a new pair here shortly. Trying to decide between 3.5 or 5mm. Besides maybe a trip or two to ARK I will mostly be hunting in SLA. Any preference for one over the other?

3.5, thank me later. If you do run into some freak cold weather just throw another layer on.

I'm hot natured, so I always opt for the 3.5 mm. It never really gets cold heat anyway maybe mid 20's a couple of times a year. My hunting partner just ordered the 5mm but he has the internal thermostat of an 80 year old woman.

Yea I am hot natured as well, looks like 3.5 it is.

The 2013 is on the website. I assume that the new model? I'm interested in looking at these over the lacrosse brush tuff I have now. They've been god but have a few leaks in em
