I thought no team was allowed to have a 3rd jersey until 2 years after the new uniforms are revealed? Why did PHX get to display one and not the Pelicans?

Because they agreed to wear the short sleeve jersey.

That's not a rebrand like we are.

This is the answer, any team that adopts the short sleeve jersey doesn't have to wait the normal year to add the jersey. Adidas feels that those jerseys will sell better to casual fans who feel weird wearing NBA jerseys.

(Using the high sales of football and baseball jerseys as a comparison)

A rebrand is a rebrand. They didn't tweak anything, but instead changed their jersey and logos making the old ones obsolete. The knicks did the same last season and didn't have their st. patty's day alternate.

No it isn't. That rule only applies to a name change. The franchise can change unis whenever they want

When the team formerly known as the Hornets changed to the pinstripe uniforms and new horn logos, and fleur de bee logo, etc that wasn't a rebrand?

No it wasn't! We kept our name and color scheme. No rebrand involves. However, I do believe I was wrong about the rules. When uniforms are changed, you have to wait a year or two to change them. We got our yellow alternates two years after our old uni change

it was a total redo of the look.

remember the blue color was changed (from teal to "creole" blue) and purple was pretty much done away with completely

team wordmark was changed

while the dribbling hornet was still the primary logo... it essentially moved to the back burner (with minor changes to it) with the fleur-de-bee becoming the main 1... also the new NOLA trumpet logo took an integral spot in the look

uniforms were overhauled (which is the main reason we couldn't have a 3rd uniform for a year)

got a new court design

while the name itself wasn't changed... the brand was... in essence the Hornets did go through a post-Katrina rebrand after coming back home

Wrong, why do you think the gold jerseys went away for two years after we changed our uniforms in 2008?

we just re-branded so we have to wait one or two years. Same thing OKC had to do and this year they got them sh***y navy blue jerseys.

BUT, if we wanted an alternate with sleeves we could of had them this year. The NBA and ADIDAS are trying to push that new jersey and allowed any team to have a sleeved alternate with no wait, only five signed on.

The whole idea is to sell more jerseys. They feel tank top jerseys can never be as 'fashionable' to the average fan as sleeved jerseys like NFL and MLB.

NBA jerseys are much more prevalent than MLB (nationwide, obviously not just in New Orleans)

Then let's do it. Keep the Mardi Gras jersey alive. Go short sleeve.
