Let's play a game first before we analyze what Brian Lazare said. I don't know how he can say what he said without attending any of the scrimmages. He's the master of gloom and doom...

Couldn't have said it better

Totally agree, but I prefer to drink my beer in celebration and not misery.

I didn't read whatever Lazarre said in the TB chat, but just for referrence that is the guy who going into 2010 said he was concerned that LSU lacked a quality SEC caliber running back going into the season.

Stevan Ridley went on to rush for over a thousand yards, get drafted in the 3rd round and has rushed for over a thousand in an NFL season. He ended up being better than the guys who were getting the bulk of the touches in 2009.

Stud is one of the worst coaches on the staff, but I don't think he can screw it up with this O-line.
As long as they don't make alot of stupid penalties at key points in the games, they will be fine.

yes big time concern. if a freshmen is battling with a seasoned player for the center one of the most important its a big concern. its amazing that miles was an ol coach and still the struggles continue. no wonder top level OL talent want to leave and play for the devil.

I think it's certainly a legitimate concern until we're proven otherwise. We've recruited great offensive line talent over the years but have not done a great job at developing those players from the high school level. They just don't seem to develop their feet and pass blocking techniques. I'm hoping this year will be different

We are finally running out of T Bobs.

This. I watched TBob get beat a hundred times in big games. It was like he wasn't even there. I could not figure out why Les had him in there as much as he did.

This is the point in the season where I somehow simultaneously achieve being completely worried about things like this and also completely convinced we'll go 14-0.

re: LSU Offensive Line - Reason to be concerned?

I remember in the spring that center/QB exchanges were an issue, I assumed this would work itself out. Then, in a recent scrimmage recap, exchange issues were noted.

This worries me, but has to be one of the easiest issues to iron out, simply by repetition.

You clearly read Lazarre's doom and gloom in the tigerbait chat

No kidding is this guy ever positive about LSU? I know he has to be objective but this is the same guy that said Mettenberger wasn't that good and he was just average but if you look at several of the qbs that have won the BCS (including Matt Flynn) his number were very similar. To me Lazaar is the only one that is perpetuating this rumor because Anthony Johnson performed well against them in the scrimmage. The guy to me does not know football and he is the reason I cancelled my subscription to Tigerbait and I am with 24/7 now. He is the same guy that on their chat last year predicted LSU would lose to Florida (he was correct) but on gameday he was on the radio with Bobby and Deke predicting LSU would win. This guy was saying that LSU has only 6 SEC ready O-linemen well who has 10 guys that are ready to step in start. His most common saying is that they "many of the guys are not progressing like they want to see." Last week he also compared LSU and Alabama's line and said both teams are in the same boat with their offensive lines.

Only playing against someone not wearing the same jersey as you will answer this. I expect a few center/quarterback exchange problems in the first game (new center always requires adjustment by quarterback -- and game time causes mental errors, especially in the first few games) and some motion penalties in early games. Hopefully we don't lose the ball or kill a drive with those. Ultimately, I think the line will settle in and play better than last season.

giving Miles and stud a best buddy to play in front of better OL would have killed the line like it always has.

you have a distorted view of how team sports at a high level work. it is not a fraternity. i think the accurate way to describe your view is that you disagree(d) with whom miles and stud play(ed) because YOU think the backups were a better choice. i think miles and stud play the players they feel will give LSU the best chance of winning the game. i also think they know a lot more than you do as to who these players are. they work with them daily and they are professionals. to say they play guys because they like them is assinine. what are your qualifications?

so, just to make sure I get this right....

a sure sign of discouragement to a top OL talent is to see other talented freshmen come and get legitimate chances to compete right away with veterans for playing time.

got it.
