If we're doing comedies:

George Costanza
Chandler Bing
Dwight Schrute

Recently, Jesse Pinkman.

Of all time, give it to Don for Barney. He arguably made that show.

Phil Hartman (Newsradio) deserves a mention.

Jason Alexander, but he had stiff competition on his own show - Michael Richards.

Ditto for Bruce Weitz and Michael Conrad - both fantastic on Hill Street Blues - way better than the leads.

Ed Begley, Jr. in St. Elsewhere

Don Knotts on The Andy Griffith Show

David Hyde Pierce on Frasier

That's a pretty strong list.

I bet I'm one of the few that catches this reference (Kevin Costner was the lead frat guy in the film - an early screen appearance, for sure.)

All's I can say is that it deserves a LOT better than 6.3 on IMDB.

This a-hole.

Not really a supporting character, but it feels like it sometimes.

That movie is underappreciated - excellent take - I think the pitch was "The Odd Couple" meets a "hooker with a heart of gold".

To tie it in to the OP - this was a rare film (and perhaps his only lead in a film) appearance by Henry Winkler - who should get some mention on here for his turn as The Fonz - a hybrid support/lead for Happy Days.
