Has anyone heard of any issues regarding the safety on the shield? Had one on layaway at Cabelas and they told me I couldn't pick it up because of a potential recall

Sounds like they sold your gun by accident. Never heard of a possible recall. It's either recalled or its not

ETA: to answer your question I've never heard of a problem with them worth recalling. Mines sittin in my lap as we speak

Haven't heard any official recalls.

The only "issue" I have heard of is that the slide may not return all the way forward into full battery if a round is chambered and it has been holstered. To "lock" the breech in place you have to push on the back of the slide. It's not a huge issue but something to think about when holstering it.

ATTENTION ALL S&W SHIELD OWNERS, the following was just released by S&W:

To All Smith & Wesson Customers:

Smith & Wesson is in the process of announcing a Safety Alert relating to the lower trigger on M&P Shield pistols. We should be in a position to provide you with more details as to the scope of the affected pistols in a few days. In the meantime, please stop all sales and shipments of M&P Shield pistols pending further notice. We appreciate your assistance in ensuring that the products we provide to customers meet our high standards for quality and safety.

Well I'll be damned. Wonder if they will replace the parts. I haven't had a problem and don't know of anyone who has

Son of a I haven't had a problem, but haven't shot it all that much due to lack of ammo. Wonder what will become of this...

Sonuva b1tch, I almost bought one Monday. Decided to just stick with my baby glock for carry.

If you don't use a safety, would this be an issue? Does it involve something else in the trigger mechanism?
