They should

Moore plays slot, stills can play slot, I think Parker has even had a better camp than tanner and he's slottish and versatile than tanner. Tanner is like a 3rd/4th up poor man's moore than isn't a special teams ace.

Roby isn't going anywhere... he our best player on special teams besides Morestead.

People are falling in love with Parker too much. Yes, he's good, but he's not a better receiver than Tanner.

People saw 2 touchdowns (both were from 2 yards out) in the first preseason game, and he suddenly becomes a god on this board. He had 2 catches for 30 yards last game. This reminds me of the love affair people had for Cadet last season, when he proved jack shite. Had Mccown of been in, or at least someone who can throw worth a shite/make reads, we would've seen some catches from Tanner.

I think Parker and Tanner should both make the squad, but only because I think Roby's job can easily be replaced. Your roster should be the best 53, and Tanner is deserving of that, while filling in a spot that needs depth.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be Parker/Roby as the 5th and 6th receiver spots, nor would I be mad about it. I trust the front office and Payton to do what they feel is best for the team. However, I think we'd be better off, and more versatile at the receiver position, with Tanner/Parker. I'm hoping it plays out that way.

If you look at Roby's [link=(career stats)]https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/RobyCo00.htm[/link], there's nothing that jumps out at you and says "keep this guy."

He has 2 receptions as a Saint for a grand total of 15 yards. So obviously the Saints don't value him as a receiver.

It's totally for special teams. Is a roster spot worth spending on a 30-year-old special teamer? Or a potential special teamer who could double as a possession receiver?

There are 3 phases of the game and special teams is one of them. If we cut Roby and teams consistently average over 30 yds on KR and 10 yds on PR, you will be screaming we didn't keep Roby.

You think they are going to waste the 5th and 6th WR spots with guys that don't play special teams?(they made this mistake with Arrington and finally parted ways because he was rarely active on game days).

This is why I think Parker is a lock if he keeps doing what he's doing. Showing he can play both WR and special teams puts him firmly ahead of Tanner and Roby.

Being that Tanner is non-existant on special teams(0 snaps in 2 games) is going to spell his doom. They cut Fayson so now his reps could go to Tanner if they choose to go that route. But he's going to have to do something with them(if he gets them) because I'm sure they want to keep Colston, Moore, Stills, and Toon off of special teams.

Top top that off, Tanner is not going to be a hot commodity in FA and they can always snatch him or someone like him out of FA if the need arises. He hasn't been spectacular and he does not have high upside.

Was Roby in on the 2 long returns by the Chiefs? Didn't watch the game.

FTR, I predict the Saints keep Roby. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't. I'm just asking questions.

Not sure if he was but he did play that game(12 special teams snaps which was 43% of special teams snaps). But you can't just say that because he was on the field for those that he isn't good any more.

LOTS of guys got out of their lanes to try to make the play and make an impression. I think Payton must have told them the only impression they made was that they wanted to be cut.

Agree with most of your post. I think Parker makes it because of his special teams ability. The first 4 guys are obvious locks at the WR position, and the battle remains for the final 2. I say give Tanner some looks on special teams as well, but he is a better receiver than both of these guys. I realize he'd be behind at least 4 guys, but it's always a position where depth is important.

I agree that special teams is a major part of the game, and that needs to be addressed as well. If they feel Roby is replaceable, they need to part ways and keep both Parker and Tanner.

That's why I don't think he makes it though. Despite being a better WR(though Parker has better stats in the first 2 games) he(or someone like him) can be picked up later if one of the top 4 gets injured but Parker has shown he has receiving ability so he'd likely fill in.

They did this for a few years with Roby and Arrington and rarely did Arrington get activated(someone had to be injured and then he still barely played).

I think they'd rather a guy they have the option to activate any given week(for example, if Roby gets hurt Parker can fill in where Tanner hasn't shown he can fill in for a special teamer).

Honestly with Colston, Moore, Toon, Stills, Sproles, Graham, Watson, and even Thomas you have 8 guys that can and have lined up at WR so you don't NEED another guy just because his position says WR. We have versatile guys that can step up if others get hurt. We don't have that same depth on special teams.

See if tanner plays Sunday. If he doesn't play much, PS for him.

He doesn't just need to play, he needs to play lights out and/or play well on special teams. He needs to separate himself not catch up.

Wallace may have cost him a job because he basically went unnoticed for a game.

If Roby was Steve Tasker I could see it. I also see that before it was good to have him on the team as we never had much/any WR depth. That is not the case this year. I think we have more WR depth than at any time since CSP has been here and I think that hurts Roby's chances a little.

Has anyone been happy with ST coverages since CSP has been here? Not me. So I don't see Roby being a difference maker there.

As many have said of late that they have 'given up' predicting his release I will say (for last time) he will be cut. If not...he has the Shanle pics.

That sounds arse backwards. Because we have so much depth is all the reason more to keep a good special teamer. Stills and Toon look to be better all around receivers than Meachem and Henderson ever were(talking routes and hands; blocking aside).

If you mean including all the other guys who have or will get cut, they are getting cut because they are just receivers. Tanner has not been special or spectacular at any point. He's made a few plays but he isn't nearly on the same level as Stills and Toon.

Again, he's someone we can cut and bring back anytime. These fringe PS/bottom of the 53 types are just floating out there and there'll be more once cuts are made.

Edit:
And Roby has been a difference maker on special teams. He's made more tackles than anyone else on kick and punt coverage. But he can't make them all. That's why we need more special teamers like Parker and less below average WRs like Tanner(for the record Parker is also a below average WR and Roby is even worse).

Roby didn't play at all against the Raiders.

He was in on 12 ST snaps against the Chiefs.

Parker played 7 ST snaps against the Chiefs and 8 against the Raiders.

Read into that what you like.

I think something a lot of people are overlooking is the possibility of only keeping 5 WRs. We kept Roby and Arrington because each filled a different role. Parker fills both roles.

With the way the LB battle is shaping up we may need another spot or 2 over what was expected (usually keep an average of 9 in a 3-4). Reddick, Johnson, Martin, Atkins, and Richardson could push the issue because as of right now at 9 you can only keep 2 of them(given that Lofton, Vilma, Humber, Hawthorne, Smith, Galette, and Wilson are locks do to ability or contract).
