Alex Rodriguez's Lawyer on Today Show is Ambushed

His lawyer was on the Today Show with Matt Lauer this morning....
Now I know his lawyer is saying that Yankees continued to play through injury in playoffs last year and Yankees knew about his health issues. However, as Levine pointed out the media asked him prior to playoffs how he felt and he said, "great, never better...etc" so we shall see what happens but this is getting ugly

A-Rod’s combative new lawyer, Joe Tacopina, was on the “Today Show” this morning. He repeated some of his recent talking points about how he and A-Rod would love to talk about all of the stuff that has gone into the Biogenesis case and his defense but that he is prohibited from doing so by the confidentiality provisions of the Joint Drug Agreement. Then Matt Lauer said this about a letter he just received from MLB:
quote:
“They sent us a letter saying that if you’re willing to sign this letter, that they are willing to waive the confidentiality clause in the Joint Drug and Prevention Program, that they’ll be allowed to talk about everything and you’ll be allowed to talk about everything. They said that would include all prior violations of the program committed by Rodriguez, all documents, records, communications, text messages and instant messages related to Rodriguez’s treatment by Anthony Bosch.”
quote:
Tacopina offered to read the letter. Then stumbled this out:
“Listen. We would love nothing more than to be able to discuss the testing history, the scientific evidence and the tests of Alex Rodriguez under this JDA drug program, nothing more.”

However, as Levine pointed out the media asked him prior to playoffs how he felt and he said, "great, never better...etc" so we shall see what happens but this is getting ugly

Dick move by the host to play him into that trap question.

Matt Lauer pulled a Mike Wallace on A Rod's douche bag attorney.

Excellent ambush. At least now maybe his douche of an attorney will shut his mouth.
I'm tired of hearing what he wants to talk about, and then hiding behind the JDA.

That's actually a pretty legit and relevant question IMO

True but if any athlete & their legal team deserve to be handle that way, it would be A-Rod & team. Braun is slowly creeping up there but A-Rod is still douchebag king.
Secondly, I hate lawyer talk in interviews. If Tacopina was doing his doing job correctly, he would have talking points to prove he & A-Rods allegations. I'm sure that Tacopina & A-Rod have privately discussed a plan of attack in concerns with going at MLB. It shouldn't have been that difficult to throw some talking points out there if indeed they have any at all.

Last night's Sox/Yanks game is how all games should be. It was exciting and fun to watch. Sorry but if you put A-Rod on TV right now I think alot of people are interested in watching him. I think its interesting how he's getting booed, plunked, ect....then comes out and hits a HR...I hope he continues to play pretty decent or starts tearing it up...just to have something to fight back the media and the booers..
good tv last night!

A-Rod found his business card under a glass-table top at Paco-Taco in Brooklyn.

If he refuses to sign the waiver or whatever it is, then it's hiding.
But until then, it's not hiding at all.

Option to talk has been offered
Can be up front in sating that terms have to be discussed prior to any agreement being reached
Interview sounded like he was totally hamstrung by agreement when not exactly the case. Path to talking has been offered by mlb

I get what you're saying, but I don't think anyone would logically think a lawyer would sign it immediately and continue with the interview and talk about all of the details.

Interesting that the atty can say all that he wants about anything when presenting his case for the public but then ducks, bobs, and weaves when asked specific questions about relevant issues by a reporter or talk show host. He ripped the Yankees' medical doctor & the team president, with specific allegations, but when Golic pressed him on why A-Rod would pay BioTech's atty $25K, he hid behind the clause. After claiming he would love to talk about it. From everything I've heard bout A-Rod, & I am a huge Yankee fan, he fires anyone who disagrees with him on anything, so it's apparent this atty wants to keep the money rolling into his office.

No it wasnt. I was watching this morning, the lawyer was trying to use it as a means to say that MLB was hiding the real stuff and he wished he could talk about it and tell everyone how it really was. Then Lauer says okay, MLB has just said preach on. HE didnt know what to do after that and continued his shtick.

I just watched it. He was crawfishing like a mofo after Lauer snapped him off with that letter.

Textbook Matt Lauer. He is almost always a VERY combative interview unless it is with someone who is open, honest, and or fits his agenda.

So you expect a lawyer to sign a draft of a contract that was drafted by the opposing party without consulting his client or having an opportunity to red-line the document? Man...
