Apparently, Lucy's on W. Sixth closed unexpectedly over the weekend.

so, that sucks.....where are we going to watch the game that's not named Shoal Creek?

I'm two months new to Austin, but from what I've heard Lavaca gets a Saints crowd. Also, Cherrywood Coffehouse on 38 1/2 is owned by a guy from Slidell, but I dont think the hipster haven is necessarily a Saints/ LSU spot. Bummer to hear about Lucy's, never even made it over there.

What's wrong with Shoal Creek? Just curious. Never been there or Austin for that matter.

I guess the oldest reason - $$

to my knowledge, there was nothing controversial, or nefarious about the bar closing. Just that it came out of the blue, I'm unaware if they did any announcement and swan song goodbye. As it was relayed to me, it was unexpected.

I have to walk a delicate line here, as there are some staunch defenders of that place that will rush to attack me if I'm too critical.

There is nothing wrong with Shoal Creek - nothing at all. I, personally dont enjoy the place. I dont like the TV's, I dont like the room(s), and I dont like the lack of parking. But, that's just me, all in all, there's nothing "wrong" with Shoal Creek.

Eater has confirmed that Saturday night will be the last for downtown's Lucy's Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant. The Austin branch of the "refuge for misplaced surfers, gremmies and ho-dads" can no longer make ends meet. Owner Bruce Rampick laments that "we were just getting traction" only to be hit by "another long, hot summer."

"We did our best," Rampick says. "It's pretty discouraging." Branches of the restaurant remain open in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

UPDATE! Our tipster comments that they're "sad to see it go. It was a great, quick place for lunch (which on west 6th is hard to find during the day - most places are only doing dinner!)"

just saw those two listed next to Shoal Creek as Saints bars. Sorry, I haven't been an Austinnite in a while. Just a Williamson county native trying to help.

I've enjoyed Shoal Creek when I've been, and not just for Saints.

I'm not a big drinker, so I can comment on price.

I know several employees. They all say the same thing. It was too slow. It was completely out of place in West 6th. It will probably become another gaudy, over the top, bro stop.
There has to be somewhere else besides Shoal Creek.

do you (or your friends) happen to know if there was anyone that was leading the charge of the Saints fans there?

If that group is going to start watching the games somewhere else, I'd like to be kept in the loop. It was so much fun there, the crappy jello shots, the Dome music after a score, the Boss St Brass Band playing after every game......it was just a blast, I hope they try and continue to recreate that somewhere else.

I remember seeing a bar/restaurant near campus that had a huge Saints helmet on the roof. I want to say it was near Lamar. It was my first day in ATX and surprised the hell out of me seeing that.

They haven't said anything to me about it. I doubt they really even care about the Saints. I believe if enough of us show up to a place that has sunday ticket, they would feel obligated to accommodate us and take our money. Maybe like Champions or some other sports bar.

I am good friends with a bartender at Lavaca st. I'll ask her to run the idea by her manager of making that back room a Louisiana football room for saturdays and sundays. That would be legit. We pack it in on Saturdays. Why not on Sundays?
