Caught it last night on Starz. Still great, but it got me to thinking...

It came out in 1980 w/ a PG rating.

It has:

Nudity (random breast shot)
Drug use (cocaine, inhaling glue)
Cigarette use (multiple characters)
Sexual innuendo (blowjob, bestiality)
Child molesation (cockpit scene)
Suicide
Mild cursing (a couple of "shits")

PG-13, or R today?

PG-13, no question.

Now Blazing Saddles, R all the way.

I would think the only major thing to consider in the rating would be the tit shot in that chaos scene on the plane. And btw, when did

Cigarette use (multiple characters)

ever factor into ratings? I mean you're just really stretching here to further your point, right?

It does now in our pussy society. What is the last G or PG movie you saw with smoking?

I'm sure it would be rated r, because the baby boomers have pussified this country over the last 30 years to cater to their precious sensitive feelings.

I think it would be forced to edit out most of the jokes. The child molestation. The under age type girl who would say I never done this before. The bestiality etc. most of what made that movie funny to me when I was a kid would be edited out completely in this day and age. If they did release a movie with those same crude jokes these days, the movie makers would catch so much s**t!

There was no PG-13 when Airplane was released

IIRC, Rob Reiner among others has come out in favor of an R rating for scenes of cigarette smoking

That's not really a valid argument. G rated movies are made for children, there would be no reason for people to smoke in those movies in the first place. I'm sure there are tons of PG and PG13 rated movies that show people smoking cigarettes, I just don't have that cataloged in my head to give you examples.

Disney and Big Tobacco!

Could you imagine, a Pixar or Disney flick today with cowboy Woody smoking a Marlboro?

The only reason Blazing Saddles would even come close to "R" is because of the use of the N-word a few times.

Other than that, it shouldn't be more than PG-13.

No boobs.

I was watching last night and thought the exact same thing.

The old lady snorting cocaine, the bouncing boobs, and the woman waking up in bed next to the horse probably would have given it an "R" rating. Do they even do frontal nudity like that in PG-13 movies anymore?
