Mindy Project, A Question For The Real Experts

Interested to see what people who have actually watched a few of these episodes think of the comedy. Several pretty funny people have shown up during the first season, some for more than one episode, too, so is it worth a watch?
Entertainment Weekly touted it as a worthwhile sitcom in a recent edition. I see it's been renewed for an entire second season. I figured I'd ask the real expert critics.

It comes on after New Girl, which I like, and I will watch Mindy Project if I happen to watch New Girl live and not on DVR. It has some funny moments and she is cute in some weird, fat piece of shite way.

I have watched more than a few episodes of this show.
It's completely uneven. There are some good characters and a lot of potential in the series, but they're doing a poor job of getting the most out of the good parts.
There have been some really funny episodes, but also some that have been cringe-worthy. There is usually at least one good, LOL moment per episode, even the bad ones though.
I think they need to trim the cast a little, focus less on only Mindy's personal life, expand on the workplace, and develop the peripheral characters better.
I say this having not seen probably the last 5 or 6 episodes of season 1.

The article I read says that the last 4 or 5 episodes are the funniest, featuring Anders Holm from Workaholics as a preacher. Apparently there's a lengthy scene where he's preaching a sermon and the music minister looks like he's a rap DJ or something.
I might have to give this thing a shot. Someone told me it was at least as funny as New Girl, but I figured I check with y'all first. If it has at least one laugh out loud moment, that's more than I can say about just about every other comedy out there these days.
This chick looks pretty legit, too.

I disagree with this, but I have a very high opinion of New Girl.

They had that show. It was called the Office.

You say that as if there was never a workplace comedy prior to the office.

Yeah, I think New Girl is about the funniest sitcom out there right now. If the Mindy Project is even in the same league, I figure it's worth watching. Like I said, one laugh out loud moment is cool with me because that usually means the majority of the rest of the 20-odd minutes are usually amusing.
Wilfred has kind of been a let-down for me this season, although I haven't seen all of the episodes.

Not in the same league as new girl, but a decent enough show. Ive seen a good bit of episodes and its pretty hit or miss
They need to go the New Girl route and put less emphasis on the main chick if they want to make it better. Im not saying shes bad, theres just only so many "omg ill never get marriedd!!1" jokes out there to make and the side characters are funnier

Some episodes are really good, some episodes are really bad. I never watched the live, but would do 3-4 episode spurts on Hulu.

I think that people trying to compare the show to New Girl are missing the point. They are two completely different shows. In my opinion, the Mindy Project is the intellectual successor to the 30 Rock legacy. Mindy Kaling is incredibly funny but given that this is her first show that she was totally in control of, I think that the first season was done pretty well. I think the uneven nature of the episodes has to do with cast shakeups, such as Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) leaving, and just new show jitters. The second half of the season was really good. This is a show that rarely stays on my DVR longer than a couple of days. I understand why people compare it to New Girl (both have female main who is awkward, both have predominately male supporting cast) but the kind of comedy New Girl is putting out there doesn't require a lot of the audience. The Mindy Project is a little more fast paced and intellectual nerdy, whereas New Girl is more even keeled and ironic/hipster nerdy.
