Importance of the Transfer Market for a Major Team

I have a general question for the SB - is it more import to make signings every year to freshen up a squad or keep a team together for multiple years to develop chemistry? I know the real answer is a mix of both, but I think most teams swing too far on the "signings" side.
This discussion applies to any team, but Arsenal is obviously the most prevalent situation. I would much rather stick with the players we have than find someone who is a slight upgrade on the transfer market. I think Barcelona and Man U both owe a lot of their success to keeping the same core group of players intact for 5+ years.

The way you build a winner is a solid youth system to build a core, then smart transfers to fill the rest of the squad. You have to make big signings every now and then to keep your core happy, that way you don't have an Arsenal situation where they lose a star every year.

I think an Arsenal team with RVP, Cesc, Nasri, and Song would be better than the current team with 2-3 big splash signings this year.

The other way is the way Real has been doing it lately, but that hasn't been bringing many titles lately.

and they buy and sell good players to help the core of the team. Arsenal does not do this. Sorry but man u and barca have world class players backing up world class players. Arsenal rarely even has a world class player on the pitch.
