I've heard other people talk about how wonderful this movie is. Very disappointed. If I want to be kind I'll say it was ok. Most of the movie was lukewarm entertainment. And the ending was so predictable. I was trying to convince myself through the movie that Kent wasn't Soze, because that's just too easy.
Am I the only one that came away from this movie underwhelmed?

My question, was everything Kent told the detective complete bullshite or did he just change the names.

You thought this because of this:

I've heard other people talk about how wonderful this movie is.

I bet you've heard about the surprise twist ending a billion times.

So far.

In your case, it may have been heightened expectations. I'm not saying you're wrong, but the acting was so good in the film - across the board - that I overlook some of the minor plotholes and inconsistencies.

I didn't start figuring out the ending until about 1 hour or so. The clues were all there - Spacey was just so convincing in his bull$hit, "I'm making all of this up as I go along, but I'm really good at it" that I didn't pick up on it until it was almost too late.

Exactly. It's like the people that figure out the ending to Fight Club because they had heard about "the big twist" previously. It doesn't take away from the quality of the film.

I did know there was a twist. Just had no idea what it was. That could be part of the problem, but it still seemed so painfully obvious.

That twist is so engrained in pop culture that there is no way you havent seen it in some form or fashion. Your mind subliminally knew the twist. You mistaked "predictable" with "familiar"

ETA i watched the movie knowing full well what the twist was, an i thought it was a great movie.

my own opinion is that it was half and half. the coffee beans in guatemala and other filler stories were made up.

the rest was close to the truth, definitely not the whole truth, but close enough.

Kind of reminds me of ppl who saw the sixth sense. And was told there was a twist at the end. And swears they knew abou Bruce Willis the whole time. And then they claim the movie wasn't that good cause they knew what was happening the whole time.

Whenever I see this:

quote:

I've heard other people talk about how wonderful this movie is

I know this is coming next

quote:

Very disappointed

There gets a point where people have heard so much about the movie that there is literally no way it can live up to the hype.

ETA: its Kint, not Kent

Favorite part of the movie was the line up.

I didn't think the hangover was funny. I saw it in it's last week in theaters and had heard pretty much every single line at least 50-60 times. It's not the movies fault.

Not saying you didn't figure out the twist and what not but The Usual Suspects is a great movie. I guess it sucks you heard so much about it just like it sucked that I knew The Hangover before I saw it.

the usual suspects is great the first time you watch it, but then on any re-watch you slowly realize that it's just a criminal telling a made up story loosely based around some shite that happened

I think it's funny that the director actually made all of them think that they were Keyser soze. Gabriel Byrne walked out of the first screeningbecause he actually thought he was keyser! He had them all convinced!
