Mississippi Tries to Curb Welfare Fraud, You Know What Happens Next

Here in Mississippi, the state has taken a measure to help curb one of the biggest areas of welfare fraud - daycare centers that cater to families who use state assistance to pay for daycare.

Basically, while there are a few legitimate ones, many (if not most) of these centers are defrauding taxpayers by accepting kids from this program, but the kids only come in one day a week or one day a month, but the center gets paid a hefty fee (more than I pay for a nice suburban Catholic daycare).

So the state has mandated that these centers start finger scanning the parents when they drop off and when they leave in order to see if they are truly using the facility for what the program is meant to be.

The facilities and parents are marching on the capitol and screaming racism.

Yea, these protests about reform are such bull shite. Miscreants in North Carolina are pulling the same shite. Nobody can deny that providing mothers with a place to send their children is a massive incentive to find work, but there needs to be limits.

I agree that the race card being thrown here is stupid, but a fingerprint scanner is a little 1984-ish

The race card has become the standard liberal argument when they have nothing else to stand on. Unfortunately, we've reached a point where criticizing, challenging, or questioning any liberal policy makes you a racist.

It's why white people are leaving the party in droves.

Actually it is pretty standard at most reputable dare cares these days. We have to do it when we drop off our children and pick them up. It is an excellent security procedure.

Me: There are many people who should be on welfare, but there are way too many people abusing it who need to get off their fat lazy asses and pull their weight.

Some blowhard I know: Whatever. You just sound racist.

Me: No I don't.

Blowhard: Yes you do. And by the way, there are more white people on welfare than black people.

Me: I know. So why am I being racist?

Blowhard: :|

As do we, and I have zero issue with it.

The issue is that this will severely effect and possibly derail the gravy train that these less than reputable daycare centers are on, so they scream racism.

And what does a judge do in Mississippi? Blocks the implementation because the state failed to issue an economic impact report.

So they are not using the daycare money for daycare? I'm confused about the situation.

Same here. I prefer it actually. My kid's daycare is locked down like Fort Knox. You have to scan your thumb print and if you don't know the code to the keypad to open the door they better know who are or they aren't buzzing you in to the classroom area. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want this level of security for your child.

I own a "daycare center." The state pays me $650 a month directly to take care of your child.

Your child stays with you because you don't work and you don't look for a job. The state gives me the money, and I give you half. I don't have to, but I need you to make this work.

I do that for five kids and I don't have to have an employee at my "daycare center." The big time ones have figured out that they can hire a few young ins at minimum wage and collect more money by having more kids.

This requires daycare centers to install (at no expense to them) fingerprint scanners that report to the state how long children are at the "daycare center." Because your child isn't really there, this throws a kink into things, doesn't it.
