I grew up in Louisiana and never had chicken and waffles until I moved to Northern Cali and was in search of southern soul fool. I don't consider it to be a typical Louisiana dish....what do you think??? Did you guys grow up eating that dish?

I have lived in the South all my life and never heard of it until a few years ago when some people up north were talking about Southern food and they started pushing chicken & waffles. I have no idea where it came from.

Apparently it's a Georgia and a Harlem thing. Gained popularity from all the food and travel shows that have featured it. I have made my own chicken and waffles before. Pecan crusted buttermilk chicken strips set atop a thick Belgian waffle (buttermilk or sweet potato) and I drizzle a frangelico and kayenne syrup over it.

I was born and raised in Lousiana and I never heard of it.

I've seen it mentioned in movies, usually that are set in L.A. I guess it was some sort of California thing.

Doesn't really appeal to me. I like just regular, good ol fried chicken with some green beans and red beans n rice.

All it is is fried chicken with waffles on the same plate. I don't see the big deal.

I think a lot of people associate it with Georgia but other than "Gladys Knights Chicken and Waffles" you really don't see it anywhere.

I think it's more popular in Cali with Roscoes.

I think it blew up on MTV cribs or some show following TI or Ludacris

They went to some small local eatery and said this is the birth of C&W

Roscoes made it popular to the nation. It's a black thing really so Atlanta had a touch of it obviously. I'm not a fan of them together.

Not a huge fan.

Think it has GA/SC roots.

Think it originated in Harlem, but it was made popular by Ludacris in ATL.

I'm not a fan of sweet for breakfast but I'll eat some chicken and waffles.

Roscoe's in L.A. has been mentioned many times in movies, way before Ludacris ever became famous. I even had to visit it when I went out there once.

Also, Hash House a Go Go has a pretty amazing sage fried chicken with bacon waffles, waffles with the bacon in the batter. Highly recommend the place on your next visit to a city that has one.

yeah when was that Ludacris album? like 5 years ago? I remember references to Roscoe's in Jackie Brown and Swingers, both from the late 90s.

It's not a Louisiana. But it is a black soul food thing. The Breakfast Klub in Houston is know for it. It's simply a waffle with some chicken wings around it. There's none of this Frangelica syrup on top, it's hot sauce and maple syrup. It's meant to be hearty and inexpensive.

Either way I'm sure it's been around way before L.A. even existed. For some reason Luda's album sticks out in my mind. I know personally I never had them before 2005. I'm surprised it took this long for a national chicken chain to jump on it.

Side note the Lays C&W chips were beat out by the garlic bread chips in that contest they had.

you must be white!
Just kidding! Really it is a soul food dish. I think the name is catchy and that has sparked a new "trend". Personally I like CNW

BTW: The upscale version is Chicken AND Waffles. In the hood or red neck version its chicken-n-waffles.
