I guess it is. I'm lucky in that, though I'm left-handed, my dominant eye happened to be my right eye.

It is not easier down the road. I was forced to shoot right handed and it sucks.

Always start them shooting with dominate eye not worrieg about which hand they write with. There are plenty of left handed guns out there but not stocked on the shelf. I usually go to gun shops and order one. If you shoot a right handed auto you could powder burn an eye. Pumps are ok but the safety is backwards and causes accidents when you finally buy a lefty. Doubles work great because of the safety on the thumb.

If buying new order him a lefty and you will both be happy. I am still angry with my parrents for forcing me the wrong way.

I'm a lefty, shooting left handed but with right handed guns. Unfortunately I only know of one LH 20 ga LINK and it aint cheap for a kid. Rem did make the LT 1100 the early 70's, but good luck finding it.

Look into an inertia action in a RH if you cannot find the LH. I've never had any issues with the ejection and just always adapted use the safety. No gas blowback into the face with the inertia.

AL 391 is a right handed 20 auto inertia drive but has the reversible safety for lefties. I haven't seen a LH version. It has the stock shims that would allow it to grow with him.

Alternatively you can try to find an old LT 1100 or get off ~$14-1500 for a Benelli M2 and a custom youth stock if needed. I think it has a 14.5" LOP stock

I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but 99% of the preceding is the proverbial "much ado about nothing," which is (hopefully) more diplomatic than simply calling it BS.

A lot of this discussion reminds me of the old "shoot right handed but left eye dominant" crap that people worry about when shooting handguns (which is only an issue if you're using the outmoded Weaver stance).

Any "right-handed" shotgun, or rifle, can be shot by a leftie. The only time it might be an issue is if it's a bolt-action gun, or an AR 15 which hasn't been fitted with an ambi charging handle (a very simple fix).

I shoot long guns left-handed..... Semi-auto shotguns, AR15's, AR10's, pump shotguns, AK47's --- and even shot a fully automatic M60 machine gun during training with my uncle (Sam).

Is someone scared that an empty casing is somehow going to distract them as it's ejected to the shooter's right ?? The same thing happens every time you shoot a semi-auto pistol, and we don't see people searching for left-handed Glocks (or 1911's).

Just go buy the best gun you can afford that fits the shooter. People have already mentioned the shims and the reversible safety button (on Berettas). That leaves zero problems.

I shoot about a case of shotgun shells/week (sometimes slightly less). I shoot a Beretta A400, but for years shot a Beretta 391. Shooting these guns left-handed simply isn't an issue.

p.s. I do everything else, including shooting handguns, right handed.
