For all the naysayers in the media and in our fan base predicting an 8-4 season, please show me how this team is not better than the 2012 team. Unit by unit, this team is at least equivalent or better in all areas except DL -- which lacked production at times when it came to sacks and pressure.

QB- w/ the maturation of Mett and addition of Jennings - +2013

RB- return the number 1 & 2 guys from last year in Blue and Hill with Hilliard in better shape - +2013

WR - everyone back. senior group who appear to be focused and will likely benefit from offense focused more on offense. addition of Dural. +2013

OL - much more quality depth this year. w/ emergence of Pocic and Hawkins, I think this years unit gets the edge.

TE - breaking in new guys but with lots of focus on TE catching passes will likely create a more production group. 2012=2013

DL- obvious drop off in proven talent at end and depth at tackle. however, lots of young studs with something to prove. +2012.

LB - hard to replace Minter and his production but I think #18 will come damn close. addition of T. Jones. depth of really talented guys with another year under their belt is an absolute embarrassment of talent. +2013

DBs - lost several big league stars but tons of talent and several guys return w/ lots of playing time. but loss of the Badger was a major blow to the defense last year. Collins, Mills, Loston, Martin are formidable replacements and guys like Eugene,Thompson White and Jefferson will be pushing for PT. +2013.

I don't think that there is any doubt that we will have a better offense scheme, from all reports. Besides,it cannot get any worse.

Schedule
With all the crying about the schedule, minus the TCU game which everyone believes we'll win, how is this schedule any more difficult than last year. Same schedule minus swapping South Carolina for Georgia. A South Carolina team that we beat last year who destroyed Georgia. and we have bye weeks before Bama and A&M

Of course, I realize that there is a lot that can happen during the course of a season, but please tell me how we aren't poised to have at least a 10-2 to possibly 11-1 season this year?

I'm pumped up!!

9-3 or 10-2. Which won't get you past Atlanta, Dallas or Orlando in January.

The schedule was tougher in 2011. And look how that played out

I actually kind of agree with you. I'm worried about D line especially DT even though we have talent. If the ball bounces our way a few times we could end up with 1 loss and SEC west champs

TE - Don't we return everyone except the two we are breaking in (JUCO guy and Desean Smith)? I think this unit is better than last year especially with the addition of Desean as a receiving threat and Cam Cameron using the tight ends a lot more.

The schedule is def tougher.

A&M at home instead of away last year.
Florida at home instead of away last year.
Auburn at home instead of away last year.

To me the big difference in schedule is UGA on the road this year vs USC at home last year. Everything else is a wash.

And this year's squad is better overall on paper as the OP has clearly pointed out.

Season will come down to a handful of plays and a few possesions just like it has the past 4 years or so. The positive thing about this year though is that our team and playmakers should be better, as almost all of them are a year older, wiser, more experienced. This year's team might make the play that wins the Florida and Bama games last year.

10-2, 11-1 or maybe even 12-0. Any of those are extremely possible.

As long as Freak doesn't get hurt, DT is a strong spot on this team.

THIS is exactly what I've been saying to everyone. Everywhere is going to improve besides the DL and they're still gonna be fine. Also, we were 3 redzone touchdowns instead of field goals from being undefeated last year. So why not 14-0?

Idk. Ego looked good at times in limited action but that's just it. Limited action. Behind those 2 I don't like the lack of depth and experience. I don't think it will be strong point IMO

You could say that about just about every great LSU DT on the first year of playing.

Excellent post. You may have let optimism give the edge to some position groups such as TE and OL, and while I agree with you on LB's, you are giving 2013 the benefit of the doubt here, too. Even so, I agree with the basic premise of your post, which is that this year's edition should be every bit as good as last year's, and let's not forget that last year's squad was basically a play away from beating Bama and playing Georgia in the SECCG and de facto national title game.

We'll find that out for sure Sept 7.

I agree- although not as tough as what we will see in the SEC.

Bama is away

That hasn't been a liability for LSU.

I believe the overall LSU team will be more talented vs 2012 than the schedule will be tougher vs that of 2012.

We'll be okay.

I agree that the only 'perceived' drop-off might be on defense.
But dad-blame it we got some young talent on D coming up! And some of that young talent played extensively last year!

If Cameron installs an offense that can control the clock and keep the D off the field, so much the better.

We may not be as good on the D-line as years past, but we have lots of depth we can run in and out to keep them fresh!
Plus we may have the best depth at LB and some of the best young talent in the nation.
Our secondary may be young, but they did get valuable experience last year.
We need a new Honey Badger to emerge....

Our best defensive player plays DT. How can that not be a strong point?

Especially knowing that EVERY YEAR a young DT steps up and plays extremely well in whatever role is needed.

4 losses this year. our defense is going to get lit up. we will score a few more points than last year but we are going to give up quite a few more.
