Im at a semi-upscale restaurant in Laffy eating a damned delicious serving of crawfish half & half (half fried - half etouffe'). About 1/3 thru the meal, I discover a 14" blond strand of hair hanging from a forkfull of etouffe'. I might add that it was beautifully infused throughout....

I politely call the server over and show her the hair hanging from the etouffe'. Her response is "Oh my, I'm sorry that happened, can we get you a free dessert" - and then waited for a reply from me. I looked her in the eye and said nothing - for what seemed like 5 minutes. She said nothing - I said nothing, a cajun stand off. She finally walked off, never mentioning it again.

I paid the bill and will probably never return. Truth is, the hair didnt bother me, what did was the policy of the restaurant not to offer a $16.95 replacement plate - but a $2.95 dessert instead. That really pissed me off.

How would yall have handled this? And screw a $2.95 dessert!

I wonder if that is how the restaurant typically handles such issues or you got waiter that didn't know or understand the proper way to handle it...

So you want $17?

Why, if the hair didn't bother you?

I'd have accepted the dessert and moved on with my night.

What's up with the standoff? If you wanted the dish replaced, why didn't you ask? If you wanted it taken off your bill, then say so. She was a server, not a psychic. Had you asked for either and then she declined, you could have politely asked to speak to her manager and made your request to him/her.

No. I would have preferred a "I'm sorry that happened - let us get you another order right out".... instead of "hey, frick the hair, but how about a $2.95 dessert".

Its just me...but hair doesn't really bother me. If I see a hair in my food, I get grossed out for a fraction of a second, then I get rid of it, and I am good.

People that get grossed out over hair don't realize everything that goes on in a typical restaurant kitchen serving food.

If you gotta ask, it aint worth it.

Psychic or not, it apparantly is the policy of this restaurant not to offer replacement, but a cheap dessert instead.
