best times of year to fertilize your yard ?

just curious to know what are the best times of year to fertilize your yard in south La? I have centipede grass and I typically just fertilize one time a year (late April/Early May) I didn't know if this time of year was a good time to re-apply some fertilizer, or if it too hot? Thanks!

Just once a year in the spring like you are doing is good. Most places are really dry right now that is why the grass is struggling.

Scott's makes a summerguard fertilizer, I put some out in early July

I think it is the fact that my neighbor threw some fertilizer down about a month and a half ago, so his grass is much greener than mine.....so the Mrs. thinks I need to step up my game LOL

why do you people fertilize your yard?!! i want to pour diesel on mine! I have to cut it every 7-10 days it grows so much

There is a fertilizer chart on the back of the Scott's bag. Tells you when the best time to use there products. I typically fertilize once in April or May.

Centipede shouldn't be fertilized more than once a yr and I would do that early spring right after you cut the grass for the 2nd or 3rd time. i.e., after it has emerged from dormant state.
