Really enjoying rugby but just getting into it. Looking for a more educated opinion on our chances to beat Canada.

I'll be at the match against Canada in about ten days. I'm not too optimistic.

However, I think we have a good coaching staff. Our main problem is lack of talent, IMO. Not lack of available talent, but lack of talent eligible for the Eagles pool.

Americans have competing interests and have to choose between football and rugby, it's pretty obvious why we lack talent (same for soccer).

Is this because they choose other sports? Or is there another reason?

A number of other reasons.

This is a reason at younger ages (see our U19 side...), but we've had guys play other sports at early ages who then moved to rugby who are phenomenal. Some of them make it to the Eagles, while others don't. USA Rugby politics play a role, as does our geography. I'll leave it at that for now...

Oh, yeah, and this.

Problem is, we won't get out of pool play.

In the last World Cup we were in the same group as Ireland and Australia, pretty much like being in the group of death in the soccer World Cup.

Good distinction.

It seems to me that our Eagles squads under Clarke had better rugby players. Some of the current Eagles might be better athletes, but...

Of course I could be suffering from PJ disease...

yeah, it's a complete mess. I don't see us getting better in 15s any time soon. #13-18 in the world...that's our place

On a related but different topic...as a prop, I found this article interesting:
New scrum laws will wind clock back - Cron
Mike Cron is basically the best scrum coach in the world. Dan Cron is his son.

We need to nationalize some south Pacific Islands and increase our pool.

So there won’t be an initial hit….they will engage before they push?

props must pre-bind before the engage...and the scrum must be stable before the ball can be put in
