I'm sure many will argue this is what happens when you award a freshmen the award and state that they are emotionally immature and can't handle the stardom that follows. I thought he should have won, btw.

Since when did the Heisman become a lifetime achievement award? I understand that integrity is part of the award but can you disqualify a kid because of what might be? He earned the trophy on the field and no one had a crystal ball telling them what would happen.

No. As much as I can't stand him, he had the best season of any college player last season. His off the field actions don't change that

If they do, they are fricking stupid and should be removed as voters if they admit it.

Any award you win that a shite ton of people know about is a lifetime achievement award. Especially if you get a statue.

I wouldn't equate it to winning a Nobel Prize

Still, it's one way to be immortalized or at least get crazy arse for the rest of your life.

I'll never understand the hate for Johnny Manziel. If you are tired of hearing about him, then stop watching/listening to ESPN.

Off the field, he has done nothing illegal (that anyone has proven) nor has he broken any NCAA rules (that anyone has proven). He's a young man enjoying his liberty in a country founded on the basis of freedom.

Buncha damn communists.

That kid had one of the best seasons ever. I'd be way more pissed if he hadn't won it.

Whatever issues he may be having should not undermine what he did on the field last season, and the behavior of an individual should not taint future individual's chances at winning the award should they deserve it.

What in the frick are you talking about?

Nobody is hating on anything, he asked a legitimate question about heisman voters.

That shite came out of left field

I think if any voter in the future says that it's not, at a minimum, in the back of his mind then he is not telling the truth.

However, I hope that when the time comes to consider another freshman for the Hiesman, they would understand that JFF is an outlier and that they cannot vote based on what they think might happen in the future.

Nah. It's a new world of advanced statistics and new thinking. That old school can't give it to a freshman logic is a dying breed.

Also if the argument is
quote:

this is what happens when you award a freshmen the award and state that they are emotionally immature and can't handle the stardom that follows.

Then Manziel is a poor subject considering he was a freshman by playing classification only not age.

IMHO, no. The award should go to the best player. If you start adding in "I don't think they're quite old/mature enough" then you're devaluing the award.
