Was the number four prospect in the organization coming into 2012, acquired from Atlanta in the Michael Bourne deal. Made his first big league start after the Norris deal last week and only gave up 3 hits in 7 innings.
Looking sharp again tonight thru 6.
Our bullpen will lose the game for us but it's great to watch all these young arms having success at this level.

He was the one guy in the deal I was kinda sad to lose.

He just pitched himself out of a jam in the seventh. Runner on third one out in a 1-0 ballgame and he strikes out the next two hitters to end the inning.
4 hits 0 runs through 7 against the Red Sox.

Don't worry. The bullpen will cave and lose the game.

Yeah, our strategy right now is giving these young arms some experience and confidence, but ultimately we make sure the bullpen blows it so we can stay on top of the Carlos Rodon lottery. It's entertaining to say the least.

I have no problem with the strategy. we'll buy some relievers and an OF in 2015 when we have 5 cy young guys in the rotation

I completely agree. I have no problem with it either. When the Front Office feels like the team is ready to compete they will spend money on the bullpen, I honestly think they may be setting up to start moving forward as early as next season at the rate they have improved.

And the amazing thing is he didn't really do anything to stand out since coming over in the trade.

no they aren't. they will be marginally better next year but still a last place club

Would you rather have Holtzy or Hursh?
Posted on 8/5/13 at 10:24 pm to volfan30
Hursh has looked good, but I know some peeps at Oklahoma State who said they were shocked he was a 1st round pick.
It'll be interesting to see how he develops.

Obie is pitching well above his head right now. His minor league track record suggests he'll be regressing. But is nice to watch and he's done it against the best teams of the AL East. Good for him. Loving these performances from our young starters.

Yep at this point the league hasn't really seen him yet. Also, he's getting way more fly balls than ground balls and that is going to bit him at MMP
