The gf wants pho tonight and I am a novice in the subject. I forget who the Houston pho expert was on here, but any recommendations are welcome. We will be in the downtown area but would be willing to travel if necessary

The Egg is the expert.

Pho Saigon is fine but apparently it used to be better. I like Kim Son but haven't had their pho. Their coconut curry chicken is delicious.

Mai's is the nicest, but a lot of people have hate for it. I like it just fine.

Pho Saigon is where you need to go if you are downtown.

Huynh Restaurant also has some awesome Vietnamese food. Check out their pulled duck salad appetizer (#8) and their stir-fried beef tenderloin (#57)....you won't be disappointed.

I had the pho from Kim Son (downtown) at the beginning of July...it was decent. Not spectacular, but clearly homemade and not from a powder/base.

The owner's here in Laffy are from Texas as well. It's, OK, but nowhere on the level of Saigon Noodles. Know this doesn't help, but it's not close to the authentic Viet food at Saigon. You may want to go elsewhere.

I need some new recs in Chinatown...I recently went to Banana Leaf for the first time in a while and it was kind of a let down. The roti was as awesome as I remember but everything else sucked...didn't get the house crab this time though.

Been to Don Cafe, Mala, Kubo's, FuFu's, B10, Alpha Bakery, Pho Binh, Mamak, Dumpling King....help me out here my dude.

Cafe TH is my go-to Pho spot around town these days. Pho Saigon has been slacking.

See if Phamily Bites food truck is out and about. They're hit or miss, but the last few times I've tried them it's been awesome.
