Man to swim 22 miles hauling ton of bricks

LINK

quote:

A long-distance swimmer who calls himself "The Shark" is ready to jump into Lake St. Clair near the Michigan-Canada border for a 30-hour, 22-mile dip.

If that isn't enough, Jim Dreyer plans to haul dinghies filled with 2,000 pounds of bricks.

The 49-year-old has made direct crossings of each of the five Great Lakes.

He plans to begin his latest swim today from a spot near Algonac. It'll end Tuesday at Detroit's Belle Isle.

He's doing it without a support boat.

One of the dinghies is equipped with a radar target so Dreyer will show up on radar screens. He has to feed himself and won't leave the water until coming ashore in Detroit.

Dreyer is trying to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity.

You laugh, but driving down I 40 from Kingman to Albuquerque I passed 3 different people that were Forrest Gumping across the country for some cause.

I'll be impressed when he is pulling a ton of feathers.

Also:

swimmer who calls himself "The Shark"

Does this virtually guarantee that one day he'll die via shark attack?

What would the volume be? Compacted or.not? The container holding the feathers might have some serious wind drag, making it much more difficult to pull.

I couldn't do this. Mainly because I couldn't even swim a mile without bricks. But more power to him. I volunteered for habitat for humanity. Great organization. I felt like a slave out there working from 6 am to 6 pm in that hot sun. Sure enough i didnt do that again.

2000 feathers would be so much lighter than 2000 bricks.
