Saw him today riding in a golf cart waving at the fans, yelled at him, "throw us some money!" Appreciate he kept the Saint (and Pels) in the city but isn't he sorta sucking at the gubment teat w/ the $400 mill taxpayer subsidy?

The tax subsidies are BS. I don't know how people defend that garbage.

The government routinely gives tax subsidies to all sorts of industry to lure them to the state. Saints/NFL are no different.

Yes, he is. Just like the movie studios, the petrochemical industry, and pretty much everyone else

I've always been right of center politically, but have to observe, I guess it's OK if you suck on the gubment teat on a massive scale, b/c you're admired (Benson, Trump) and reviled if you suck gubment teat on a smaller scale and use food stamps to buy alcohol, etc.

And? Doesn't make it right. Benson just got a giant EBT card that can be used for anything.

Seriously. Football season starts today and you start this shite?

All right, calm down, Karl M.

I don't even know how to respond to this. If the government gives poor ppl a lil something. Than someone is who has money is holding their hand out saying where is mine. If the rich get breaks, it is bs also. You can't win with most ppl
But, the OP does a bad job of trolling or criticizing Benson. Between the Hornets and the Saints, that is alot of money that comes into this state throughout the year for both franchises. The state would be screwed if there were no Saints or Hornets. So yes, the state of Louisiana gives him subsidies in massive amounts to make him happy, to keep the cash flow coming from those two franchises.

And some of what I bet the OT is counting as a handout from the state went to the superdome renovations, etc. That is a state owned entity technically.
And those little things like super bowls, BCS title games, NCAA basketball tourneys, sugar bowls, etc mean big time $$$$ spend in this state by out of state people.
There are much worse things to have our tax money spend on.
And get out of here with that weak arse shite of comparing forms of welfare, etc.

The economic benefits of the two teams outweigh the kickbacks. Better criticism would be on his post Katrina behavior where he used a tragedy to leverage the state for more money. A lot of younger people tend to sweep that under the rug today (I guess because they were in their teens or under when it happened) but - to date - he's never commented on that rather shameful display of greed/indifference. I suppose buying the Pelicans is sufficient penance for his sins and he finally realizes you can't take it with you.
If you search YouTube you can probably find one of those old press conferences (and this is as 'recent' as 2000 or so) where he bemoans the lack of state help and quips, 'What about my grandkids, what are they supposed to do?' as if inheriting a billion dollar asset is somehow going to leave them in the poorhouse.

Is it actually a transfer of funds from the state to Benson, or is it a reduction in taxes due from Benson to the state? If it's a reduction in taxes, I have no problem with it whatsoever. If it's transfer of funds from the Louisiana to Benson, then yea that's bullshite.

Subsidies are direct transfers. Tax "breaks" sound better, but when you consider the state is going to make up for that by taxing someone else, it's a hidden tax increase.
I was happy that Benson sold naming rights to Mercedes, because it meant the state wouldn't have to "chip in" for renovations.

and it isn't even close. I did a breakdown of it a few years ago for a project and the state comes out way ahead

if it keeps the Saints in NO - does it really matter?
