I'm sure many of you remember Ashley Fox's stupid Patriot way article after Hernandez was arrested. Quite frankly, it was one of most dumbest sports articles I've ever read.

Well she came out with another gem about the Riley Cooper fiasco.

I'm sure this is the first time a white guy has used the N word.

quote:

What Cooper said is clearly unacceptable and wrong. It is tiresome we even must discuss this issue in 2013. We should be past it.

Given the negative power of the word Cooper used, many teammates won't be apt to forgive and forget. It is an issue that could divide the locker room, as first-year coach Chip Kelly acknowledged Thursday. It is an issue that could undercut Kelly's authority, given that the team fined Cooper but did not suspend him.

ESPN NFL reporter Sal Paolantonio dishes on the Eagles' reaction to Riley Cooper's apology for using a racial slur, whether Philadelphia's discipline of Cooper was enough, Michael Vick's comments and more.

Cooper is radioactive. He is divisive. And while Kelly likes the size Cooper brings to the field, Cooper isn't a star. He's a wide receiver who has caught 46 passes and scored five touchdowns in three seasons in Philadelphia. Even with fellow wideout Jeremy Maclin out for the year after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Eagles can live without Cooper. They have 11 other wide receivers on their training camp roster, in addition to seven tight ends, which in Kelly's offense are equally important.

Kelly said that in assessing punishment for Cooper -- the team swiftly fined him an undisclosed amount of money Wednesday -- he never considered taking Cooper's roster spot from him.

quote:

That's a problem. That can fester. Part of building a winning football team is getting guys to play for each other in good times and bad. It is a relationship business.

No one was playing with, much less for, Cooper in practice Thursday. It is hard to envision that changing, which is why the Eagles are going to have to cut him.

Cooper's career in Philadelphia can't survive this, because Kelly's first season in Philadelphia can't survive him.

Oh yeah, when we need a story, lets pile on a idiot who was drunk at a concert and caught on video saying stupid things.

Jemelle Hill is the absolute worst. I don't know how this girl is, but no way she is worse.

Rick Reilly is my least favorite, but far from the worst. He is a very talented writer who was paid an egregious sum of money to leave SI, and has been virtually unreadable ever since.

Statements like this are why the conversation about what Cooper did is still going on. White people just don't seem to understand. This isn't boys will be boys; this isn't just saying something stupid while drunk. Those excuses don't work when you have a white man yelling about committing acts of violence while using racial slurs. This is a huge fear of the black community.

Quit making excuses for his deplorable actions and recognize that racism needs to be condemned.

When people are drunk, so many stupid things are said.

Whats the difference between this and a drunk person verbally abusing his GF?

It would be different if Cooper was sober and saying shite like that.

The n word isn't a big deal at all. Lil Wayne goes on stage and sings about killing ****s. Who cares?

When an historically discriminated against group reclaims an offensive term, it does not give the creators of that term free reign to use it... PARTICULARLY out of hate in the context of violence.

I don't think the dude is racist or anything and this is so far incredibly blown out of proportion. All of the blacks taking this holier than thou approach are full of it too. You can't tell me that cooper wasn't made fun of or called something for being a white wr in the NFL. Even something as benign as "that white boy is good" or whatever it may be, is still bias to the thought that blacks are better receivers than whites. While not as egregious, nobody is making a big deal out of issues like that...

It can also be said that when people are drunk they show their true self. Drunk is an excuse. It is also ridiculous that he wants everyone to believe this is the first time he has ever said it.

First, alcohol does not cause domestic violence. Second, the difference would be he is offending one person, not an entire race of people. It would still be deplorable, none the less.

Do you think alcohol is an excuse for domestic violence too? Wow.

I don't mind him that much, but I can see how many would. But, you're right.. you can't deny his writing ability.
