Screwing with me?

From June to July our electric bill shot up over 275% Went from around $80 to close to $300. I looked back on my past bills and it looks like this happens every year around the same time. Now I know June was almost as hot as July, maybe a little cooler but not 275% hotter.

We have been closely monitoring our electric use, keeping lights off, turning off computers and electronics when not using them, etc. and we rarely use the A/C.

Is there something I can do that will force them to re-evaluate or something?

If you have any doubts, just go check your meter and plot it over time. It should show you how much energy you are using on a daily basis/hourly basis.

Go read your electric meter and see if the last reading was reasonably accurate.

Also, have you compared KW hours used between the months you're comparing? That should give you an idea if you actually increased your electricity consumption that much.

The utility could be estimating your bill... you can ask them to come out and read the actual meter.

Check the days between readings too. I've seen it where one billing period was 37 days, and the next one was 24 days. They're fricking with my mind when that do that crap.

Or the meter reader person could have made a typo.

Check what others have said, but did the kwh rate you had with your provider expire? When that happens, they bump you to the current rate. Happened to a few people I know.
