I don't think this thread should be titled what it is. For anyone who hasn't seen Lonesome Dove this is a pretty damn big spoiler.
That said, what an amazing story. The other books are great, other movies are mediocre. But they didn't have the same level of actors in them either.
My favorite book of all time. My great grandfather and I searched for Blue Duck when I was a kid all throughout Ft. Worth.

Not sure about the movie/mini-series, but in the book, Cap't Call gives the Hell Bitch to Newt (when Call leaves Montana to return Gus to Lonesome Dove, I think.) Newt gets crushed and dies when the Hell Bitch attempts a back flip.

I think Newt had (at least) 3 horses. The one he left Lonesome Dove on, the one Claire gave him as a present in Ogalala and then the Hell Bitch.

Correct. I don't remember if he named the one Clara gave him.
And BTW, first "Pete", and now "Claire"? Is there an alternate reality Lonesome Dove I don't know about?
