Bow hunters.let me know what you think of this deal. PICS added anything needed?

I am new to bow hunting so I was going to purchase a pse brute package and shoot that for a few years and then upgrade. A guy I know just offered his 1 year old mathews 6.0 monster, case, dozen arrows, realease, all tricked for 650. might get it for 600. currently 65 lb draw and 30 inch draw length. Is this a good deal?

Here are the pics. Can yall tell me what it has/ doesn't have? I have a general knowledge of this stuff. Thanks!!!

I'd say jump on it. The bow alone should be worth that much.

I agree. Good deal as long everything works. If its got a good sight, etc that only adds value as well.

If the draw length fits you, go for it

Sounds like a deal

The biggest thing you need worry about with ANY used bow are cracked/ split limbs. Check carefully for this by visually examining the limbs around the limb bolts where it bolts to the riser and the areas around the axles at the other end if the limbs. If there is a problem with the limb splitting you should be able ti see it. Use a high powered flashlight and hold at various angles to highlight any potential problems

Other than that you could check the condition of the bow string and cables for frayed/ broken strands which may indicate a string/cable that needs replacing

The limb check would be a deal breaker.
Worn strings n cables are easily replaced for @ 100 bucks

Buy it. Good deal. Probably nothing wrong with it being 1 yr old. But so check the limbs and wheels for nicks or cracks.

Shoot it before you buy it and you will know it.

one thing you might want to think about is that it is a 6" brace height which will give you more speed over a 7" but might hurt your accuracy a little bit.

eta: i would go for it

You need to shoot it for sure, monsters are one of those love or hate bows. Also if the draw length is not right you will have to buy new cams for it. So it will have to go into the shop more money for you to have to spend.

Otherwise it's a good deal if everything is in working order.

How tall are you and how long are your arms?
If you buy a bow that doesn't fit you will end up more frustrated than successful. You can build up to the draw weight.
Not sure about that one but I doubt you can change the draw length.

I'm pretty sure that bow hasn't been manufactured since 2010. It's not that great of a deal. It's not bad but don't listen to these guys saying to buy it up.

If I was in your situation I would buy a used switchback xt. It's one of the best hunting bows ever made and far more forgiving than that monster.

Good luck finding a switchback.

And that's a pretty damn good deal...

It's actually not a very good deal. Do your research.

And you could buy a switchback anytime you want. There are tons for sale

You only have to buy new cams to change the draw length on Solo Cams. Monsters have draw mods, so you wouldn't have to replace the cams if you need a different draw length.

Yep, if it was an MR6 I could see that price, but the original monster 6 bows can be found for cheaper.

If you are a beginner I would strongly advise against that bow. Monsters, like PSE Omens, are built for speed. They have a pretty harsh draw cycle and aren't forgiving at all. You are going to struggle being consistent with that bow unless you have solid form.

I agree with this. For $100 or more less than that price you could get a well maintained Switchback XT. It's not going to be as fast (315 IBO) but a beginner Is going to be able to shoot much better with a smooth, forgiving bow.
