Gift from my grandfather

I mentioned this last week, but after I visited my grandfather last weekend he randomly gave me a couple firearms. One is an antique Damascus steel double barrel rifle (will display in the man cave). The other is a Spanish 1916 Mauser. From what little research I've done, these are based on the 1893 action. Apparently most of them were reworked and chambered to 7.62 NATO, but mine is still the original 7mm Mauser. I've got some Prvi Partizan ammo on the way, but I was curious if anyone had any experience with these...it seems to be a mixed bag based on what I've seen online. Either way, the thing is in ridiculous shape and I'm stoked to shoot it. Hasn't been fired in at least 40 years.

Apparently the 1916s are pretty common, though the 7mm is harder to find than the 7.62. The ones on Armslist are mostly in the 200-400 range, but those are either sporterized or in nowhere near as good condition.

Can you post some of the double?

I went back and forth, but I figure a box of 7mm once every year or so followed by a good cleaning wouldn't be too terrible. Plus I don't think I have the self-control to just let that thing sit in my closet.

Make sure to use non-corrosive ammo!
If none is available, study and learn how to properly clean the corrosive salts out of the gun before shooting.

Here are some pics of the double. According to the internets, I gather that it's likely English-made from Belgian steel. It's got "Real Twist" engraved between the two barrels. You can see from the pics below that it's got some pretty intricate engravings, including a lion on the stock. The name on the metal work around the trigger is Henry Cooper, but I haven't been able to find anything related to that name. It's also missing a plug on the stock. An awesome piece to display, though.

Definitely. He gave me a couple boxes of ammo (Spanish surplus from 1948), but that stuff will stay out of the rifle unless I use the brass to reload. I've got Prvi Partizan non-corrosive ammo being shipped. If I shoot it, that will be what I use.
