BATON ROUGE - State wildlife and fisheries regulators are seeking the public's help in finding six missing mooring buoys on Independence Island Reef.
The buoys went missing in late June from the reef located about three miles northeast of Grand Isle.
The buoys are provided to give fishermen an identifiable marker of the popular fishing spot. They were part of a 2011 restoration project on the reef, which is believed to be the largest limestone inshore artificial reef project in Louisiana.
Anyone with information on the missing markers can call LDWF's Operation Game Thief's toll free hotline at 1-800-442-2511 or text their tip to 847411.
Removing buoys brings up a $500 fine and 90 days in jail.
