I want to try and consolidate some of my stock accounts. I've always been a buy and hold forever type of investor, but would like to get everything in one place to make it easier to access and manage. I've had Shwabb for years and have a Scott Trade account open, but haven't used it actively. One of these or someone else?

I've always enjoyed TD Ameritrade. I don't know what it's like now, but I used to have one a few years ago and enjoyed their format, research, and customer service. I'm working in the industry now so I use my company.

I went with Optionsxpress (although I am not currently big into options) because of the consistently high ratings. Customer service is great, allows fractional shares with DRIP, and great online research tools.

A little steep on stocks at $8.95 commissions, but I'm a buy and hold guy. Completely owned by, but separate from, Schwab.

Seriously? $9 is steep? You people would hate me.

It's all relative. It's less than 0.2% of a $5k purchase, but some people consider $9 steep for online. Some market "value" trades of $5 or $6 which is a big jump down from $9, percentage wise.

It's all about expectations. If everybody else is paying $7 and you're paying $9, you feel like you're getting robbed. I don't find it steep, but I know some will balk at $9 online stock commissions, particularly frequent traders.

I use Smith Barney. It's called their Track program. It's a managed account where you choose your risk profile and the account buys and sells for you for a fee balance.

I have been using it for about 10 years. I find it does an excellent job of minimizing my tax burden and locking in long term gains.

ETA: Co managed 401k is with Fidelity.

My .02

I use Fideltiy. I've had a money market fund with them for a long time. Trades are $7.95 which I consider dirt cheap.

I use TD Ameritrade for most of my assets.

I have a solo 401K at Fidelity.

I have a SEP-IRA at Scott Trade.

All are good enough. None are perfect.

Trade King

$4.95 a trade. I don't care about bells and whistles. It works great for me although I wish they offered free ETFs.

I have a COFA brokerage account through capital one. My grandpa opened one for all of his grand kids. I'm going into capital one and talk to someone about it tomorrow. Anybody know anything about these accounts? I'm totally clueless when it comes to this type of stuff, but would like to learn.

I use Sharebuilder. No complaints. Seemless with my checking and online savings through CapOne. $4 scheduled trades (Tuesday only) and $7 market trades. Can do fractional shares on scheduled trades, and have free DRIPs. Have a good amount of ETFs and MFs available.

I use Etrade. Been with them about 12 years. Great to work with. 7 bucks a trade which I find a bit high due to what I paid in trading fees over the years.
