I know I'll be the only one or close to it, but I give the player zero responsibility here and the agent 100%.
IMO it is absurd to think a player should know all of the details of his contract. These contracts are like novels with a million different provisions.
This is basically the exact reason he pays the agent, for the agent to know these types of things.

I know he is a dumb arse for not realizing this himself. But, that agent should be sued for failure to properly represent his client. They should carry some sort or errors and omissions policy and this is a big omission. If the agent didn't mention his need to be involed in these work outs to trigger a 2 million payment then he isn't doing his job properly. These athletes are idiots for the most part paying these agents large chunks of money, this is something the agent should have caught and brought to his attention.

You won't be alone, as I totally agree.
Not to mention, I would bet my house the agent sold him on being his agent by saying he would provide this player with comprehensive assistance in all matters, including house buying, financial advisers, etc.
Agents today market themselves as 360 degree representation. Its squarely on the agent if he didn't tell Brown about the clause.

Is this kind of thing normal in player contracts? 2/3rds of his base salary just went away because he missed workouts. That just seems like an odd thing coming from a position of having no idea if that's normal.

I know a lot of players have weight requirements they have to hit. I would assume it depends on the player.

I'm just saying have some personal responsibility. Go to work. I don't think that's a horrible thing.

the agent is in the service industry
he gets a % of that contract to provide this service SOLELY so that the player doesn't have to worry about it
that's why the agent gets paid
the payer is paying the agent handsomely to allow him to not pay attention. if the player was supposed to be bound to pay attention to all of these details, then he doesn't need to pay a service provider to do so

The original position is that it was his agent's fault. I am saying that it was in fact the player's fault. I didn't say that it was somebody else's fault. He should have read his contract. The fact that he didn't read his contract (or presumably listen to his agent after the contract was signed) is all on him.

Maybe you should take OTA's a little more seriously. This is ridiculous. OTA's come and go and at no point did you even take the effort to figure out whether you should go or not? Sounds like a great teammate.
