Won't rank the rest but coppa (place on Washington) is the definition of average food. Seriously it's not even remotely worth your time.

Id go to provisions and pondicherri before hugos. Lived like four blocks from it and went a few times, was never overly impressed. Mark's right down the street like two blocks away was much better imo. Eta and get the fricking west Alabama ice house tacos

I'd do:

Provisions (I like Pass more, but Provisions is a really good date spot)
Hugo's brunch ( I understand the people that knock dinner/lunch, but the brunch is great)
Pondicherri (I actually like Indika more)

and I guess Mala

As for Coppa, I've only gone for happy hour, but I enjoyed the food. Others have raved about it, so I figured the sit down menu is good as well.

I agree. The bar food next door at Hay Merchant does more for me than the food at underbelly.

I feel like anywhere/anything that gets too much hype is bound to have that criticism.

Austin hype bruh. Houston has good spots but it's definitely got A LOT of hype/promotional types running around too, at least that's how I felt. Makes sense, there's a lot of money to be made.

Yeah there's nothing good to eat on that drive (whataburger!)

I would suggest either el tiempo or Ninfas on navigation for your tex mex. Corner Table is delicious, fun atmosphere (loud), there's two bars connected to it. Highly recommend
