Shot a whitetail doe on the run at about 10 yds in the head with a 12 ga slug. She flipped and we couldn't find the entry wound and after further review it was in the head.

Also, shout another running away in the head at 120 steps with a 12 ga slug.

Both shots, pure luck.

Killed a cottonmouth swimming across a pond about 45 yards away with my Taurus millennium pro .45

First shot missed low, second shot put him belly up

If I was going to call BS on any of these, it'd be this one. Not calling BS, 'cause it's a lucky shot thread lol

Some incredible tales up in this thread.

Mine's a bobcat with a bow at 40 or so yards, through waste high grass, while standing on the ground (told that tale here already), and my other is, well, let me rephrase......

this guy I know (MANY MANY MANY YEARS AGO, LIKE AT LEAST OVER 15 YEARS), was dove hunting on a sandbar/willow thicket in the red river. A lone blue winged teal flew by. I got no idea how far he really was, but he was so far that the shot was actually talked about before it was taken. They said it was one of those "I'ma take a shot at him, even though he's wwwwayyyy out there. Man, you can't shoot that thing from here. Here watch".

The lead was launched, and the teal (supposedly) fell stone dead. I heard they picked the entire bird, and only found one lead pellet hole through his eyeball.

Prior military experience as a gunner on a destroyer lol?

Shoot, that's almost not luck if you've killed more than 1 game bird on the wing with a 22.

Man, I miss standing deer with a scoped rifle lol.

I can guarantee you I shot at least two boxes of 16 gauge shells at mr. jacksnipe before I ever cut a feather off one. I didn't even know what they were. When we moved to La Place, I was in the back of the neighborhood, and these really fast birds started jumping up every now and again. I just knew it was a game bird because it flushed/flew fast. I finally killed one, and showed it to my dad, and he told me what it was.

As a youth, many moons ago, I was out with my solid black Daisy BB gun. Rumor was, that farmers wanted us to kill Sparrows, cuz they ate the corn. On the way home I saw some Chimney Swifts swooping above and took a shot. Down it came. I picked it up to see where my dead aim had hit. It was a beak shot. Well many, many years later, I learn that Chimney Swifts are the most prolific mosquito hunters on the planet. I realized that my shot was actually "caught" by the poor bird while trying to do his job. I felt bad, so thanks for giving me an outlet to share my shame.

Not my lucky shot, but a buddy of mine during high school gets the "Luck Shot of a Lifetime" award.

Some geese were flying up so high in the stratosphere that we could barely see them. My buddy (just goofing around) sends a round up with his .243.

A couple seconds later, one of those geese starts helicoptering down. Seemed to take 10 minutes for that sucker to fall all the way to the ground. Bird was alive...just clipped its wing.

Winner so far. Bonus points if it was open sights.

I posted this before on a thread talking about banded birds but its worth a repost:

I shot 3 canada geese from a flock – all were banded and the numbers were consecutive xxxxx-15, 16 and 17. My uncle shot at same flock got one bird no band. To be honest I was surprised to get 3 geese w 3 shots and no I wasn’t floating a 4th shell ;) (had a 1187 then) – killed the 1st 2 dead as hammers the last one had to chase down. I talked w a DU and FWS bio and this was the 1st time they ever heard of a triple w/ consecutive #s.

I landed a bait on top of a nice flounder. When the bait hit the surface, it spooked the flounder, which launched itself out of the water, getting foul hooked in the process.

Was on a Teal hunt when I was about 18. This one teal I started leading began to come right at me over the water. I started leading him and then he dived down out of sight about 10 yards in front of the blind behind some reeds.

I couldn't figure out where he went and as I began to lower my shotgun he suddenly flared right up in front of me by the blind. I just pointed the barrel in his general direction without thinking and pulled the trigger. The gun wasn't even on my shoulder at that point, I was just holding it in my hands.

He fell into the blind right next to me.

Another really CSB.

I've been pretty lucky (not THAT lucky), but I really do think my banded kills/total kill ratio is way higher than the average duck hunter. I've posted this before, but one of the banded birds I killed was a mallard drake that was tagged about 10 years before I killed it. The numbers on the band were almost worn down to being unreadable. The guy I was hunting with emptied his gun before I shot on that one too.

I have always wondered how they can fall from so high and then out run you in a muddy field.

If I fall 10 feet I am going to lay there a while before I even try to get up.
