"make plays" most overused coach speak?

Definitely overused, but pretty much true. It's actually a knock on the players from a coach. To me it implies that they called the right plays, but the players didnt execute.

"Do things" sounds better.

yes, but at the same time, it's not a bad phrase.

some players are very good and consistent, but some make dynamic, game changing plays. tm7 is a good example of this.

Mine always said "It's not how you start. It's how you finish" and "The most important play is the next play!".

There are a lot worse overused phrases.
