So apparently the sod they're laying down at Cowboys Stadium is in pretty horrid condition. Grant Wahl seems to think it may warrant keeping Holden out of the lineup. Thoughts?

Twitpic of the sod.

Also, Torres' left-footed corners may be tricky from here

not surprising as it's being played in the Super Walmart of sporting venues.

Exactly.

"Well, the playing surface isn't really big enough to adequately lay down a soccer pitch"

"Who cares? Cowboy stadium hurrrr...we can fit every Mexican in north Texas in that place!"

Never understood why they just don't play on the turf. I know I've never played at their level, but I have played on turf quite a bit and never had a problem.

I think it's a health issue. I've always heard it's a lot easier to tear ACL's and what not on turf.

I see what you're saying, but these are state of the art artificial surfaces we are talking. If they were of genuine danger then the professional sports teams that play on the them would be dropping like flies.

Legitimate stupid question:

Why can't these games be played on turf ... it would be the perfect pitch then?

Forgive my ignorance

According to Abby Wambach "It wrecks your body and changes the way the game is played"

Apparently defending is harder too, no one would explain why though. I don't know I honestly don't really care, but I think turf is dumb as frick. Just play on grass. No need to play in the Georgia Dome or Jerry's World.

All the studies done on the new turfs show that it's actually more forgiving than grass and less likely to result in serious injuries.

These issues aren't limited to domes. See: Seattle, WA.

Obviously. Portland is the same way, think like 2 other MLS teams are like that as well.

Turf is also absurdly expensive.

I don't know bc I fricking loved playing on turf. My high school had turf and it was awesome. No bad bounces ever. But at that level, turf is a step up from the shitty grass fields people had. Nice grass fields are fricking and that's what these level of players are used to

You didn't like playing on fields where the grass is worn down in every high traffic area or with a significant crown?

I was never a fan of playing on turf... the ball travels faster and bounces are much stronger. If you don't usually play on it than its a pretty big adjustment

In the long run, it's cheaper though. You don't have to constantly spend money to keep it healthy. Just need to replace it every 3 or 4 years.

Yes, but upkeep is not. Hence why all most fields in Europe, as well as fields in the NW that see lots of rain, are turf.

Ok, I'll tell the Sounders and the Timbers to get right on it.

Here's an article on the field if anyone is interested. It's real short, but of note is the fact that the field is laid DIRECTLY on concrete. Sheesh.

troof. i need a patent on the "fake attempt to chest down/settle a bouncing ball but then turn around the defender and start running bc it's bouncing over our heads." worked all too often
