Brad Wing has all the talent in the world, but is a few fries short of a happy meal upstairs--too bad.

lol. why do kickers need to do conditioning?

The dumbass should be on a short leash. After the way he left LSU, I doubt he gets many chances and he already fricked up his first chance. You would think he could show up to camp in shape. I'm sure he's out of shape because he was so absorbed in the playbook. you know....being a punter and the model student he was at LSU.

Or maybe it was something as simple as spending time with his new born son. I would think starting a family would be a huge responsibility.

He will get in shape...thats what camp is for.

Honestly it'd be better if he was just out of shape. UDFA can't afford to spend time with his kid when this training camp is going to determine his entire NFL career.

He is out of shape...he failed a conditioning test.

I was stating the reason he was out of shape is because he just had a son and didn't get his road work in.

He will be fine.

Earl Campbell once failed a conditioning test to open camp. He did not finish the mile in less than 9 minutes.

When they asked Bum Philips what he thought about it. ..he said, "When it is 1st and a mile...I won't give him the ball."

Yeah, I'm sure that's it. What with being a father and all his other obligations to cure cancer and bring peace to the Middle east, he can't find an hour or two 4-5 times a week to do some conditioning work. Do you have kids? Do you realize they basically sleep 18-20 hours a day as infants? By the way, camp is NOT for getting in shape. With off season OTA's reduced by 5 weeks in the last CBA, players are expected to show up in shape. Camp is for learning or implementing offensive and defensive systems and player evaluation.

Wing's an undrafted free agent trying to make a NFL team. Having a seasoned vet in front of him makes it difficult to make the final roster. Now, failing in his first physical test puts him even further behing the 8 ball. Having a new kid is no excuse for not being in shape. Sad to see another LSU kid waste some incredible talent.

Don't be so sure. Punters need to know blocking and punt coverage schemes called at the line of scrimmage based on the opponent's punt block/return setup. And based om Wing's inability to find his way to a classroom, I'm not sure he knows shite. I really hope you handle it well when Wing blows what may be his only NFL opportunity because he doesn't even show the discipline to show up to camp in shape.

Do you know how common it is to fail the first conditioning test? Really, this isn't going to hurt his odds of making the team.

They don't help his odds, but come on.

And infants don't sleep 20 hours a day, unless you dose them with benadryl which I wouldn't recommend. If they slept that much you wouldn't hear parents constantly complaining about not getting sleep. And yes, I have a kid, and no he didn't sleep no damn 20 hours a day.

I'm guessing that you are confusing a conditioning test with a pre-contract or trade physicals. It isn't very "common" to fail a conditioning test. If you don't think this hurts his odds of making a team you are crazy. NFL teams carry one punter. The last thing an NFL teams wants to do is risk a roster spot on a guy whose personal indiscretions the night before a game may land him in jail and leave the team up shite creek. Especially a guy that isn't head and shoulders above the dependable veteran he is competing against.
