I'm pretty sure it is confirmed that PS+ will be mandatory.

what worries me is if its required will they still hook us up monthly with free stuff.

i doubt they would just stop putting out free games when ps4 releases

definitely.
IMO this is a way to get people signed up now so that it is no big deal when the console comes out.
Time will tell if they start slacking on the free games.

Go buy yourself a 1 TB hard drive off of newegg.com for $80...
- PS+ WILL be required to play online on the PS4. Otherwise, you can still play any game purchased offline for free.
- PS+ games that are listed as free on PSN are only available until your subscription runs out.
- PS+ discounted games (ex: Black Ops II sells on PSN for $39.99, but PS+ gets the game for $34.99), you would be entitled to keep those games because you spent money on them. Same goes for DLC content.
- PSN is updated every Tuesday at roughly 6 PM Eastern.

I can't see them offering free games anymore once PS4 comes out. If they do, they won't be the great games you see now. You might see games like Jimmy Johnsons Race Anything On Wheels for free or something. I know that Sony has a few extra incentives for PS3 PS+ members who carry it over to PS4. The new racing game (race club) or whatever it's called being released on PS4 is supposed to be free for current PS+ members. However, I have heard rumors that it is only the single player portion of the game that is free and not the full game.

They will, just don't expect the same amount of stuff for PS4. With the PS3, they had 6 or so years worth of games to put on the IGC. With the PS4, they'll be releasing only new games on the Instant Game Collection (at least for a while), which is why it'll only be 1 PS4 game per month, and they'll mostly be indies at the start.
They will continue to give Vita and PS3 games away, however. This is why I'm not going to jump into next-gen right away. While I'm waiting for X1 and PS4 (whichever one I get) to fix launch bugs and showcase more exclusives, I'll have a massive backlog of games to work on. Right now I have like 30 games from PS+ that I haven't gotten around to, with god knows what to come.
