Man killed wife, hid her body in the basement wall

quote:

It is a story that William Faulkner or Edgar Allan Poe could have penned as fiction, but it is true.
On a snow-filled Christmas break in 1985, first-grade teacher JoAnn Nichols, the 55-year-old wife of Mississippi native James Nichols Jr., disappeared from their home in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., apparently leaving behind a despondent note.

Twenty-seven years later, authorities found him slumped in his chair, dead at 82 of natural causes.

Cleaning out the house six months later, a contractor found a false wall in the basement. Behind it, he found a plastic container that held a huge garbage bag wrapped with rope, big enough for a body.

quote:

Inside, they found skeletal remains, including a skull that had been fractured by a blow. Dental records identified the remains as JoAnn Nichols.

Damn, a few things in that article gave me chills. Like the whole "killed a squirl with a hatchet while dressed up and wearing a tie."

In his basement, police opened the black trash bag wrapped with rope in the plastic container behind the false wall. Inside, they found skeletal remains, including a skull that had been fractured by a blow. Dental records identified the remains as JoAnn Nichols.

quote:

That was hardly the only grisly discovery made after Jimmy Nichols’ death in December. The carcasses of his two faithful dogs were also found in the freezer

quote:

In the end, Nichols died in the house that became his prison, almost covered by the trash he hoarded.

That's a crazy story. Weird fact for people that don't read the article, he was an ole miss grad, she was an LSU grad

Another weird thing for me,

She was killed a month after I was born and he died the same day my mother died. Long time to live with a corpse in your basement

Years later an unsuspecting family moved into the house. Everything was fine, except for the eerie sounds of shuffling in the walls, and the phantom sounds of bricks and mortar being laid that came from the basement when the moon was full...

WTF, when you report your wife missing, don't the cops usually search your house?

Ya know how I knew he was a murderer....

Sure, but I doubt they tear down all the walls in the house just willy nilly.

I rarely believe these I'm running away stories.

Always suspect the spouse. however, many cases the spouse was prosecuted and didn't do it. most notably, Andy DuFruene.
Speaking of Steven King, he needs to go take notes of this story.
