Not too well really:
Seems like it would be pretty hard for the them to miss. The Eye of Sauron overlooks the Northern Portal, to where in the very least, Eska would have noticed it.

I would bet that Unalaq or Vatu promised him more knowledge or he would make sure no more humans would harm his library.
I think Wan Shi Tong wants the world to go back to the Era before the Avatar. Releasing Vaatu and having him kill off the Avatar would be a good thing for Wan Shi Tong, and he wants the spirits to take over the physical world again.

Can someone tell/remind me why Korra needed a spiritual guide?
Well, because Korra would have been destroyed in there without one. Sure Jinora ultimately fails at this, but Iroh took up the slack. I don't think Korra would have lasted long in the Spirit World without one.

Oh, and we only have two hour long episodes left. Next week is Harmonic Convergence, while the finale I expect to be Vaatu vs Korra and Unalaq vs Tenzin.

Still wondering if that's something Vatu gave Unalaq.

Something tells me Tenzin is about to break out a subtype of bending
Hope so, I figure Aang has to have taught him well and he can be all calm and such then turn into a bad arse when he needs to put a beat down on someone...

Why would Aang ever have needed to learn this?
Why would he pursue it? I figure the past Avatars would teach him, but what's the point?

I agree that Aang would not have taught Tenzin to bend vacuums, nor was Aang taught it or even attempted it. I'm sure they've realized it's possible to do it, but they've never attempted it, even though I'm sure some Airbender in the past has done it.

Update: all 4 episodes remaining of the season are being released online tonight. First 2 episodes on TV and the rest online by midnight.
I only brought my work computer, to where I'll have to likely wait.

Why are they releasing online!? Is this a bad sign?

They've done it before in the series. In the original I think The Day of Black Sun and The Boiling Rock were first released online. They released the first two episodes of Korra online before the premiere, as well as another random episode. Avatar is a series they make more for DVD than for television. That's their bigger interest.

Plus I'm pretty sure it will be more like a 2 hour finale to where you're going to want to watch it in rapid succession. Like Sozin's Comet in the last series. The creators have claimed that this is their best season to date, so I'm expecting the finale to blow my nuts off.

That was a fricking cop out not killing him.
And I really hope they keep Verrick around. That guy is great and fricking hilarious.

That was a great fight tho

But honestly, how fricking awesome and brutal would it have been if Unalaq threw Korra her father's severed head?
Posted on 11/15/13 at 7:37 pm to OMLandshark
I thought he was going for the kill for a second with the way Unalaq almost killed Korra and Jinora ast week..
The twins are about to turn on their pops.

Fortunately we won't have to wait that long. Only a few hours.

Welp I just watched the last 4 episodes in a row and it was great!!
Korra decided to leave the spirit world open to humans. So if they make a new season I could definitely see that not working out to well but we shall see!
I was kind of confused with Tenzins daughter (Jinora) randomly being so needed to win the battle though. I could get her being spiritually advanced b\c she has the avatars blood in her and what not but her being the final "light" that brought back Rauva or whatever seemed kind of odd.

Just watched it. Wow, may be the best of the finales. More thoughts on it later.

XBL only has episode 12 up so I haven't been able to watch them yet

Eh, I thought it was the worst of the finales. A little too random out of nowhere powerups from Korra and deus ex machina abilities from Jinora. I enjoyed the anti-avatar setup, but the last episode left a bit to be desired IMO.
Be interested to see where they go with the spirit world joining the human one again with the next season.

I mean, it's not any more ridiculous than Aang fusing with the Ocean Spirit or finding a giant Lion Turtle that grants him the ability to not kill Ozai. It's actually a heck of a lot better than in last season when Aang just for basically no reason gives Korra her powers back. I just don't see an argument for it being worse than that, especially since there were no long term repercussions to basically anyone in that season and they started off the next season with a complete character reset to get the characters where they were in the finale.
Here's what I took from it on how Korra did that: Korra, unlike Aang, learned to let go of her baggage. It allowed her to go onto a higher plane of power than Aang ever achieved. Top it off with the fact that Harmonic Convergence was happening (which is Sozin's Comet to the spirits) and Korra was meditating in the single most spiritual location in either worlds, then Korra's power levels were able to spike even without Rava.
Jinora on the other hand I think was unknowingly given some of the light of Rava when she saw Wan's statue glow. Korra didn't know what she was doing, but Rava did and had a back-up plan with Jinora if things went particularly badly.
The show does overly rely on the Deus Ex Machina to get things done, I'll agree with that.
